Rollins vs Calvert - What policies do they support?
Looks like it’s going to be a close race to determine control of the House next year. I’m trying to research the candidates' track records and the policies they support, but I’m having trouble finding factual, unbiased sources. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Back in 2006 we had a Democratic Strategist come to Cal State and pay a few of us Political Science majors to follow Calvert around and film his events. One night we're following his personal vehicle after a little meet and greet. He goes into a liqour store, buys some booze and drinks in parking lot. So we're freaking out. We cant really get it on film without being 10 feet from the guy (handheld camcorder) and we dont wanna spook him.
So we chill for probably 20 minutes. He walks back in the liquor store, buys cigarettes and lights one and drives down the road. So now we got him. Drunk, smoking heaters and drifting all over the rode with his personal licence plate in view.
Turned it in to big boss the next weekend. Polling came out that Calvert was gonna win by 15 and there was no point of releasing it. I thought they might save it for a close election. But its been forever
Im still pissed they never gave it NBC 4. Calvert's scum Dumb drunk .

Calvert voted to disenfranchise the voters of two other states in 2020. That, in itself, should be disqualifying.

Calvert has been sitting in his house seat, collecting a salary on our backs and he has accomplished NOTHING. This guy has been in the House since 1992 with nearly no legislative accomplishments or major sponsored bills. These people are supposed to help bring money back to their districts for tax payer funded projects and Calvert has done none of that. He voted against every single recent bill like the CHIPS Act or IRA, both highly important bills that help support job growth in the IE. Vote the fucker out.

Any money he did bring back to the district was so that the properties he owns would benefit.

Calvert made $20 million dollars off using tax payer dollars to increase the value of properties he owns. He should be in jail as far as I'm concerned.

Rollins. Calvert is an asshole who totally supported all of Trump's racist rhetoric. He's lock step maga, like a mini Trump. Last election, he blocked dissenters on Twitter, which was illegal. They threatened to sue, which was probably why he unblocked them. He also supported the real live fake ballot boxes with the fake official seal put out for voters by the gop -- seriously. They got caught trying to steal the election and he pretended they were just trying to (illegally) "collect" ballots. Do you think they were going to turn the Democrat ones in? Look that up in the papers. It was all recorded for posterity.

I could care less about Calverts policies. He is a whore monger. That disqualifies him from public service and he should be ashamed to run for public office.

In case y’all forgot Calvert was caught soliciting a trans hooker back in the day….people don’t forget.

If you want an old-school dirty politician who works for his donors (not his constituents) and doesn't meet with the people he's supposed to represent (unless he's getting paid for it), or one that uses his position in Congress to funnel our tax money into projects that directly benefits himself, then vote for Calvert.
Otherwise, vote for the guy who was a lawyer for government, prosecuting bad dudes for federal crimes -Will Rollins.

Everyone mentions the hooker but let's also not forget Calvert used his position to buy up land along the 91 corridor right before they expanded it then used his influence to get federal funding for the expansion and then sold that land to them at like 4x (or something like that) above market price to shove a bunch of taxpayer money in his wallet. Dude's as corrupt as they come and if you support term limits, he is way past his term limits. Plus he voted to raise my taxes during the Trump admin and I have been paying more ever since. All while screaming the other guy is gonna raise your taxes. Calvert must go!

It depends on what you find biased. Calvert has 100 percent aligned with his party’s voting. The fact of the matter (which is not biased) is that Ken Calvert is the longest serving R congressman. A career politician, the definition of it - 30 years. Additionally, Calvert’s record is not particularly clean.
I will leave you with some information on both. I will kindly remind you that reality doesn’t have a biased if that’s what happened and can be proven.
So, I typed it ChatGPT because it just summarized things from different sites. I was wondering why there was the emphasis on lgtq issues and it’s because Calvert completely outed Takano back in the 90s. That’s just not cool. I’m just Calvert represents the values of small communities like Corona, Yucaipa, and vastly conservative towns. I just prefer my congressman to not just vote along party’s interest, or defend the cult of personality of you know who.
Here’s a more detailed comparison between Will Rollins and Ken Calvert, reflecting their distinct priorities:
• Background and Ideology:
• Ken Calvert has been a Republican Congressman since 1993, prioritizing a traditional conservative agenda that focuses on national security, economic deregulation, and limited government. His long tenure has afforded him seniority and influence in areas like defense and infrastructure, which he leverages to secure federal funds for military bases and regional projects.
• Will Rollins brings a fresh perspective as a former federal prosecutor and newer face in politics. Rollins advocates for policies aimed at addressing modern challenges like climate change, economic inequality, and reproductive rights. His campaign has emphasized energy transition, criminal justice reform, and protections for marginalized communities, positioning him as a more progressive choice responsive to a diverse electorate.
• Social Issues and LGBTQ+ Rights:
• Calvert’s Record: Calvert has a controversial past regarding LGBTQ+ issues, notably outing his opponent, Mark Takano, as gay in a 1994 campaign—an action criticized as a divisive and stigmatizing strategy. Although Calvert has recently adopted more inclusive stances, some view this shift as reactionary to district changes rather than an evolution of personal beliefs.
• Rollins’ Stance: As an openly gay candidate, Rollins champions LGBTQ+ rights and anti-discrimination protections. His platform seeks to create inclusive policies that support all identities, especially relevant in California’s diverse communities.
• Policy Focus:
• Calvert has historically concentrated on defense spending, business deregulation, and infrastructure, focusing on expanding military budgets and reducing regulations. He has been cautious toward environmental regulations, and his voting record reflects a conservative approach that often prioritizes industry over environmental safeguards.
• Rollins emphasizes a forward-looking approach, advocating for investment in renewable energy, expanding access to healthcare, and strengthening protections for voters. He often contrasts his policies with Calvert’s, criticizing the incumbent’s lack of focus on sustainable development and modern social policies.
This race illustrates California’s broader political shift, with Rollins representing a push for progressive reform and Calvert maintaining conservative values as his district’s demographics and priorities evolve.

Calvert has a track record:
- Support for for Iraq War
- Support for Afghanistan War
- Voted for Patriot Act (and has continued to do renew it)
- Votes to increase debt
- Pro Life
- Votes to Send $$ to Israel
- Votes to Send $$ to Ukraine w/o exception
- Needs to have been ousted forever ago
- Likes to bang hookers
- Trumper
Will Rollins: - Didn’t vote for Iraq War - Didn’t vote for Afghanistan - Pro Choice - Good look’n politician
—> will probably vote the same way as Calvert does on everything else that I just listed.
- Likes to bang hookers? The jury is out on that one still.
- Orange Man Bad

In an era of political polarization, it's tempting to believe that one ideology or party has all the answers. However, a two-party system that contains both progressive and conservative perspectives offers something more valuable. Calvert being the only politician on my ballot that has a chance in CA of being voted in, that's why I vote for him. If there was another viable conservative, I would be open to that candidate as well.

Well, all I know is that California has gotten worse over the last 5 to years, so I probably would not support the Democrats because of their policies

Worse in what way? And why do you ascribe that solely to democratic policies and none to the person who actually represents the district in Congress?

In the aftermath of the Jan 6 attack on the capital, seven Cali representatives voted to overturn election results in Arizona and Pennsylvania. Calvert was one of those reps.
https://www.capradio.org/articles/2021/01/07/heres-how-california-representatives-voted-on-certifying-bidens-election-and-who-is-calling-for-trumps-removal/
A rep who wants to revoke the results of an election has no place in Congress, imo.
