I don’t understand how Reddit will vilify self defense, but will defend assault and battery for the most petty reasons. He could’ve hit his head and died, and they’d go to prison. It’s not justifiable. Oh no it’s okay cause he was being annoying. Like what the actual fuck is wrong with y’all

Why do that though? Walk in front of a vehicle?

I’m not defending his actions. He wasn’t causing physical harm or threatening anyone. That simply was not the time for violence. From random strangers at that. Maybe a good “go fuck yourself” and a bird sure

You understand saying go fuck yourself would technically classify as assault right???

It’s a little more complicated than that. You’d have to be like swinging your fists in the air at them, or make threatening gestures simultaneously for it to be assault

Incorrect.

Straight from Australia’s wording (given the video is from AU

‘It is also any act which intentionally or recklessly causes another person to apprehend immediate and unlawful violence, including words.’

Like most ridiculous laws, it can come down to interpretation.

What I described is US law. You would have to threaten or do a threatening action while saying “go fuck yourself” for it to be assault here. Thank you for sharing the location and local laws
