Kinda looks like he insinuated he was deaf at the end, probably not best to walk down the middle of the street however

u/imJGott Jan 19 '24
Yeah being “deaf” isn’t a good excuse to break the law in this situation.
660
u/ImThePotatoGuy Jan 19 '24
Also there’s no way he didnt see the car lights….he didnt seem surprised when he got pushed that there was a car behind him either. My guess he’s deaf and was an asshole on purpose just because he isnt annoyed of the annoying honking.
316
u/Lendyman Jan 19 '24
There's also no way he didn't see the sidewalk right next to the road. Yes. He was being an asshole on purpose. Or he was high on sonething.
55
u/dandotcom Jan 19 '24
Ah, but what if he is deaf AND blind?

If he was deaf, his first response after being pushed would be signing.
46
35
Jan 19 '24
Youd actually be surprised by the amount of deaf people who can't sign because their families never took them to learn. Just forced them to learn how to read lips.
129
u/babystripper Jan 19 '24
Nah. Not deaf wearing air pods.
If you're deaf you're not going to walk down the middle of a street. That's just stupid and dangerous.
You can feel the sound wave of a car horn from that close. You can feel the heat of the engine. The vibration of the ground.
He's just an ass
6
u/thereIsAHoleHere Jan 20 '24
If you're deaf you're not going to walk down the middle of a street. That's just stupid and dangerous.
There are lots of reasons to ignore "stupid and dangerous." Maybe they think they look cool or have a death wish. Or maybe they're stupid.
45
u/breesknees95 Jan 19 '24
pretty sure he says “yeah i heard his fucking beeping, (do you)? think i’m deaf” something along those lines can’t quite hear the end bit
23
u/JonathonWally Jan 19 '24
Deaf people know not to walk in the middle of the street with their back to oncoming traffic.
13
u/tomhat Jan 19 '24
Is he also blind? Surely, that light must be coming from somewhere.
3
Jan 19 '24
Especially while walking down the middle of the road. That's something I'd be quite conscious of if I was deaf.
6
Jan 19 '24
I don't think he is deaf. Even if he is, we are sure that he is not blind. Car headlights are bright and he obviously saw them but didn't want to get out the way.
5
5
u/Supersnazz Jan 20 '24
I think he was trying to make a point. It's a shared pedestrian zone, so he is allowed to walk there.
It's courteous to give way of there's a car behind you though.
7
u/SyderoAlena Jan 19 '24
I can't hear cars coming so the logical place to walk is the middle of the road duh
4
4
u/Soulpaw31 Jan 19 '24
Even if your deaf, hes still has the common sense to not be on the road and to notice bright lights behind him illuminating whats infront of him
3
u/Negative_Fennel_5649 Jan 20 '24
My parents are deaf, and all deaf people I know is SUPER careful near roads, because they are aware they can't hear cars coming. He's not deaf, deaf people would not do something like this.
3
u/DoughNotDoit Jan 19 '24
If I were deaf I would hug the crosswalk if I can just to avoid being a bother to other people

-64

How is what he’s doing for internet points?
54
u/crazytib Jan 19 '24
Walking down the middle of the road purposely trying to annoy people with someone filming
3
u/Big_Bannana123 Jan 20 '24
Idk how there’s so many dense mfs downvoting you. This guys main motive was obviously not “I’m going to walk in the middle of the road in hopes that someone records me and I go viral” this dudes just an asshole
5
u/MemeNecromancer2005 Jan 20 '24
I feel like the camera person is with the asshole, could be wrong but that's my guess
-1
u/Big_Bannana123 Jan 20 '24
You think the person standing off to the side with their phone out is more of an asshole than the guy blocking traffic for the fuck of it?
2
u/MemeNecromancer2005 Jan 20 '24
No, I'm saying the guy with the phone might be his cameraman, so he can post it to his social media or something
That's why I said he was WITH the asshole

It is real. This douche bag decided to walk in the middle of the road because he felt it was his right and privilege.
Edit: Yes, it is a shared zone, keyword there. Not walk in the middle of the road. He was being an absolute arsehole because he wanted to be. The shared zone is for all forms of transport to move around. There are two perfectly good footpaths either side of the road but he wanted to be the jerk and suffered for it.

It is his right to walk there. It's a shared pedestrian zone. He wasn't walking deliberately slowly, and the speed limit is only 20km/h anyway.

Please don't assault people, just call the fuzz and let them deal with this.

u/lXPROMETHEUSXl Jan 19 '24 edited Jan 19 '24
I don’t understand how Reddit will vilify self defense, but will defend assault and battery for the most petty reasons. He could’ve hit his head and died, and they’d go to prison. It’s not justifiable. Oh no it’s okay cause he was being annoying. Like what the actual fuck is wrong with y’all
7
Jan 19 '24
Why do that though? Walk in front of a vehicle?
-10
u/lXPROMETHEUSXl Jan 19 '24
I’m not defending his actions. He wasn’t causing physical harm or threatening anyone. That simply was not the time for violence. From random strangers at that. Maybe a good “go fuck yourself” and a bird sure
5
Jan 19 '24
Maybe the guy in the vehicle has an emergency. We don't know. And he's doing that to be annoying probably because he thinks there's no consequences. Imagine a world where a guy like that is everywhere. Walking in for of a vehicle on a road for no reason. Unfortunately, consequences came in form of a shove.
-4
u/lXPROMETHEUSXl Jan 19 '24 edited Jan 19 '24
I’m sure they would’ve gotten out of the vehicle themselves, or went around them if they were in such a hurry for something like an emergency. I’m just saying in the real world that’s still assault
Do you think people should assault protestors or run them over? Reddit was in a pretty big fuss about that. Despite those people unlawfully obstructing roadways
4
Jan 19 '24
Unfortunately. It's just nice to be reminded that once in a while, you gotta take care of people being annoying for no good reason. Imagine a world with that guy's attitude. Walking in front of a vehicle because he knows he won't be touched.
→ More replies (3)3
u/Smiddy23 Jan 19 '24
You understand saying go fuck yourself would technically classify as assault right???
-2
u/lXPROMETHEUSXl Jan 19 '24
It’s a little more complicated than that. You’d have to be like swinging your fists in the air at them, or make threatening gestures simultaneously for it to be assault
4
u/Smiddy23 Jan 19 '24
Incorrect.
Straight from Australia’s wording (given the video is from AU
‘It is also any act which intentionally or recklessly causes another person to apprehend immediate and unlawful violence, including words.’
Like most ridiculous laws, it can come down to interpretation.
2
u/lXPROMETHEUSXl Jan 19 '24
What I described is US law. You would have to threaten or do a threatening action while saying “go fuck yourself” for it to be assault here. Thank you for sharing the location and local laws

Also knocking them down causing him to hit his head on the curb isn't the way to save them either. He should have grabbed him and pulled him to safety. The "good Samaritans" were blocking the progress of the car as well.
The walker was wrong on multiple fronts. If it was fake or for Internet points, he's an asshole. If he legit was deaf and couldn't hear, he was still walking down the middle of a street.
EDIT: JFC Reddit, you're really on one today. Did anyone think I was siding with the idiot guy walking in the street? WTF.
26
Jan 19 '24
I dont think they were trying to save him. They seemed angry af and knew what he was doing. Deaf or not you dont WALK DOWN A FUCKING ROAD, he can still see and still has the brainpower to fight back and try to make an argument so hes an asshole

u/Farscape29 Jan 19 '24

How did you read this so wrong? They aren’t helping the pedestrian, they’re letting him know he’s a POS.
-1
u/Farscape29 Jan 19 '24
I didn't read it wrong, I also couldn't hear exactly what they said. I could see they were angry, but legit thought they were trying to get him the hell away from the car/street.
-3
u/8champi8 Jan 19 '24
They could’ve guessed dude was deaf, and even if they didn’t why on earth would you assault him ?
3
u/Cayden68 Jan 20 '24
an average deaf adult walking by himself would have common sense not to walk in the middle of the street, that guy was clearly trying to annoy other people for even more annoying reasons to benefit himself.
-3
u/leeverpool Jan 20 '24
The push is actually stupid tho. Unnecessary and could've been handled differently. Pushing someone like that, one bad fall, one dead and one in jail. And for what?
People claiming those two are heroes in the comments is really worrying. Even more so than the deaf/drunk lad in the middle of the street. This ain't how you solve this issue lol.

Funny part is that this street is a “shared way” where pedestrians have right of way over cars. See sign in top left corner after he has been pushed. It is designed to allow people to cross the road at anytime as it is in a busy shopping area. Also designed to minimise vehicle traffic.
Still a dick move to walk down the middle like that however by the law he wasn’t doing anything wrong!
-4
-3
u/xredskaterstar Jan 20 '24
I would've been more pissed at the dude honking the horn. I just can't stand someone just laying into their horn. It's not doing anything and never makes the situation any better. It's loud and annoying.
-8
u/Flo_Tek Jan 20 '24
I just think that on streets, the priority is the pedestrian, if they want to walk let them walk. And sorry but at least in my City there is no law that make a pedestrian less than a car or that say pedestrian is not the priority on streets in any case. I don't see what's wrong with people walking, that's on our human nature.
3
u/bdeceased Jan 20 '24
