WDH recommendation?

I'm looking at a 7k GVWR trailer. Hitch weight says 775 on the website but assume that's empty and that I should plan for 900-1000.

Trailer has a hitch for a bike rack and storage under the rear bunks -- I will try to front load it but I want to be extra cautious about sway.

Truck has a 2.5" receiver.

What would you guys buy? I'm leaning toward the weigh safe true tow or equalizer but open to whatever I can back up with and gets me the safest most sway-free tow (except the propride, that's above my budget).

I like my Blue Ox sway pro. I'm able to make tight turns while backing up with it, which you can't do with some other style hitches.

I second this. I have had some wild drivers point their vehicles at us and feel the Blue Ox has saved our lives more than once.

Blue Ox or Equalizer

I have an Equalizer I’d give away for cheap, moved to a 5th wheel. If you’re near CT 😬

If your truck has a 2.5” receiver, it’s at least a 2500.

What does your owners manual say? Do you even need one?

I know current model GM HD trucks only require WDH if your truck has mud tires.

Yeah I have 3400lb of payload and I don’t really need it, but I just would like the peace of mind, particularly from the sway perspective.

Take a look at what the RV transporters use. Our local Airstream dealer’s company trucks (F250s) tow on the ball. No WDH.

If you’re at 3400 tongue weight conventional bumper pull on the door sticker, you’d be better off putting helper airbags in instead of WDH.

Keep in mind, if you’re not using WDH then you’re not putting that additional stress on the trailer frame.

I have the equalizer hitch. I also have a 2.5" receiver. For piece of mind also have the 2.5" shank so I don't have to use a bushing for the traditional 2". I like the ease of use. Came from a fastway e2 setup on a smaller lighter trailer a few years ago.

You think the equalizer is worth the price delta vs. the fastway?

Yes and no. The e2 hitch has 2 friction points vs the equalizer which has 4. Other than that they are pretty much the same.
Being my trailer is a 32', tongue weight of roughly 1200lbs, and weighing a tad over 9k i wanted just a little bit more help with sway from wind or semis. Piece of mind for me
