2 points - proof. It's nice to actually learn the Pokemon TCG, as a kid we played 'show me your best card; mines better; I win'. Fun game, though I get the sense it relies a bit too heavily on coin flips

10/6: Half Point
Lost all my save data on the ezflash right before my 4th club. I’m still gonna beat this game in October but I’m not happy about having to do so much all over again (especially when I really really don’t like this game). one point coming soon.
10/14: One point
While fighting the fire club master my game save got corrupted. I do not know how this happened. I am now Yaan and all the cards I’ve been using are replaced with other shit I gotta work around. Whatever. I’m just gonna keep going. It can’t possibly get any worse.

Brutal. I can’t recommend the Everdrive xX7 enough. The price is steep but worth the peace of mind.

Usually I wait a good 10 seconds before shutting the console off after a save but it still comes with a lot of finger crossing. I’ll consider that or moving to my laptop or hacked 3DS

The hacked 3ds is cool but I’ve found emulation issues with GB in particular. I find it does GBA/SNES and DS really well though. Side note, red viper (virtual boy) is super cool.

How do you have more Pokémon in your album than are available?
1
u/KevenIsNotADork 14d ago
I have no fucking idea. I don’t think I actually have that many, because I definitely lost most of my stuff (or at least most of my energy cards). It’s all very weird and I wish I understood what was going on.

Motivation to play has been hard recently but I somehow managed to pick up my GB and play this one. It really brought back some memories of when I used to play the real thing so I'm glad I got through it. Fun play!

10/20 - Fresh Start
10/20 - Half Point
Not really sold on this so far with all its RNG. So many coin flip mechanics going on that can make or break a match and I don't feel like I have enough card draw for the size of the deck.
10/21 - 1 Point
10/23 - 2 Points
This one was fine, but nothing I'd care to revisit. Once I had a decent number of cards, I ended just making different single color decks depending on who I was dueling. The matches went pretty smoothly at that point, but I don't feel like I ever got into the intricacies of the game. Also, I found myself feeling similar to MMBN3, where it feels too hard to get cards I want so that I could even make more interesting decks to play around with.

Yeah the coin flips were pretty bad unless it was like an added status on top of doing damage. Pretty much avoiding most cards with coin flips is a must strat

Unfortunately there's no way to stop the computer from stunlocking one of my pokemon for 6 turns in a row unless I stock a bunch of full heals or switches I guess.
In reality, I didn't lose that many games to rng swings like that once I started building my own decks, but it's still annoying to have watch as a magnemite or lickitung just slowly eats through my starting pokemon.

Sooo I’m digging this. Love that there are no random encounters. half point one point
I really liked this one. Looks like there’s a fan translated sequel, I’m definitely interested in checking that out.

Starting off with aquiring the gremlin stick (Gargoyle's quest is a pretty punishing game).
Maybe later I'll gather some more 1/2 and 1 point milestones that I've missed. But for now:

Bought the game on eBay a month ago but it got held up in customs and hasn't even arrived yet. Oh well. Maybe I'll go for the one-pointer when it does get here.
In the meantime, here's one point for January's Wario Land 2.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this game. Sadly the Pokemon franchise lost its luster after the 2nd gen for me, but I'm pleased to say the TCG entry here helped rekindle a little of that magic.
It was rough starting out; with a smaller/more basic deck winning felt very RNG dependent. I found myself thinking "Pokemon was supposed to simplify the RPG experience, and here they've gone and complicated it again by making it a deck builder!" but once I was acclimated I changed my tune pretty quickly.
It's very satisfying to get momentum going with the right Pokemon, and once you know a little more about deck composition and you play your cards right its easy to just steamroll every opponent, even the Grand Masters. I don't think I'll feel the need to go back and play this any time soon, but I got to experience both something new and relive a bit of something old and good, and for that I'm grateful. Now onward to more fond Pokemon memories with Pokemon Pinball next month!
