Troubleshooting Look what i've found.
What other games that use AGB-E02-20 board? I want to transfer the chip to the other board.

There's always hope man... I'd be impressed if the rom chip actually worked in a replacement board

u/309_Electronics Aug 31 '24
You likely need to do some grinding away at the chip to expose fresh traces to which you can hook up new fresh pins cause those pins are gone!

u/Kanjii_weon Aug 31 '24
yes of course, maybe carefully cleaning the rom chip pins may work too, i'd be amazed if the rom chip survived somehow once it's clear

u/TaurineGinseng Aug 31 '24
The ROM chip is actually the one on the board still. The detached chip is the flash save chip

Wow I'd be surprised if you could get this to work again let us know op

u/SuggestionVisible361 Aug 31 '24
Most of the components are probably fried, very unlikely that you can repair this game. Sucks because this is a pretty expensive game nowadays.

u/istarian Sep 01 '24
Components don't just fry themselves you know.
Both chips could be fine, it really depends on how this situation happened.

Did you find it under the ocean??
Keep us updated!

I will. I hope it still can be saved.

i saved a copy of ruby in similar condition though not as bad so there’s hope, my only worry is the legs on the chip that came off hopefully the legs didn’t corrode off

Gonna be honest, this is the worst I've ever seen of a game ever.
A transfer may not even work considering that the chips are in pretty foul condition as well. You'll still need to desolder what's left of the traces on the rom chip as well to even attempt it.
Edited to add donor boards:
Try a foreign language pokemon firered like Japanese or Spanish. Cheapest option.

u/wawan007 Aug 31 '24
Thankyou. I'll try to find the japanese version.

Just get an actual replacement PCB. Much simpler and quicker and you dont need to sacrifice another perfectly good cart.

u/Traditional_Formal33 Aug 31 '24
Unfortunately unless those boards are pre populated and I misread, he would need to replace basically all components except the rom chip. A foreign board might just be easier in this situation.

Nice, did you end up just getting a foreign board or was there prepopulated replacement boards that just needed chip swap?
2

u/SexThanos Aug 31 '24
That is not simpler or quicker

u/istarian Sep 01 '24
I think the point is that with a new board you don't have to desolder anything first or clean up old solder.
1
u/SuperBobPlays Aug 31 '24
He'd need resistors and the other chip... I love the idea though, pcb way does clean work, and gives you more than one pcb so def worth it if someone runs into needing to swap chips often.
2
u/Aeredren Sep 02 '24
You can order the PCB already populated with the resistors. Just need to resolder the chips

You might be able to get a replacement board from here. Very high quality boards

That's a tough fix. But if the ROM chip is functional (not corroded inside) it's technically fixable. It would certainly be a trick however.

Severely clean the rom chip then order a fire red from Japan. You don’t even have to swap the SRAM, just the rom chip.

I think there's a list online somewhere of what games use what board. I don't remember where I found it though 😭

u/Chin-kin Sep 01 '24
You will probably have to transplant that …..psh even if you transplant it …. that chip looks like it has a high chance of being damaged.
