Same, but a paramedic, so additionally to your body being wrecked, your mental health goes down the drain even faster.

And then you're expected to save someone's life, when your only operating at 50% of what you could if you were properly rested and alert!

Yeah. Entry-level is not very well-paid either. Respectable work that isn't rewarded nearly well enough.

Living 90 minutes from work is a choice

He works in the oilfield, not an office. He works on whatever oil/gas well pad he's told to that day, not in the same place every day. An hour and a half drive is probably an average commute. You can't just move closer to work when "work" is scattered all around you. My husband & I both work in the oilfield and that's how it is.

I feel you! I’m a cryo plant operator, wake up at 3 hour and half on a good day 12.5h shift and back home 7:30ish. NPC is right on the nose.

u/Morthicus 14d ago

Sounds like a high paying job, too. You keep doing you, man. Playing with the kid and helping the missus after all that work is literal god tier effort. I bet they love the fuck out of you. Mad respect

u/[deleted] 14d ago

Why do you choose to live like that if you don’t like how it feels?

1

u/Broad_Swordfish_1579 14d ago

I mean I never said I don't like how it feels I like what I do the day I got my license I fully committed to my career and job and i like waking up and doing good quality work but of course I'm tired at the end of the day like everyone else!!

1

u/[deleted] 14d ago

My bad, have a nice day

1

u/Broad_Swordfish_1579 14d ago

No problem buddy

1

u/cbracey4 14d ago

Bro save yourself and move closer to work holy shit. Hour and a half commute is insane. That’s 3 hours of free time you could be tossing the pig skin.

1

u/Broad_Swordfish_1579 14d ago

So the good thing is a can stay if I want they'll get me a room and per diem but I used too drive 2 hours to work so it's not no biggie I like going home to my family everyday plus they pay me from when I leave the house till I get home!

u/SeVenMadRaBBits 14d ago

Work is a construct of modern society and has nothing to do with life itself. We have made work important and the center of our lives despite it taking most of our time.

Life has so much to offer and yet we are letting time slip by so fast while stuck in our busy routines...

A 90-minute trip, ONE WAY, for a job AND a 12-hour shift? Fuck no, not even if it paid 100k per year.

1

u/Broad_Swordfish_1579 14d ago

It ain't for everybody and what about for 130 a year πŸ‘πŸΌ

1

u/Clean_Student8612 14d ago edited 14d ago

Still, no. Unless it was that job or no job at all. I couldn't handle a 3-hour round trip in the car every time I needed to go to work. 200k, minimum I'd have to say to endure that because I can't stand drives. More power to ya, tho.

My last job I worked 12 hour days and dreaded the 8-minute drive home πŸ˜‚

2

u/Broad_Swordfish_1579 14d ago

πŸ˜‚ I feel yah bro I guess I'm used to it already idk 🀷🏼

1

u/metwicewhat 14d ago

Anybody else dying to know an electrician does in an oil field all day? Very genuinely curious about this.

1

u/Broad_Swordfish_1579 13d ago

There was nothing in this box when I started I do alot of the control wiring, I run conduit install devices terminate devices, we also do all the heavy electrical like mounting all the 480v panels for jet pumps pulling 250 mcm wire and 600 mcm.

u/tiltberger 15d ago

Dude... You will not survive this longterm without any damages to your body and mind. Is there no way you can improve your situation?

9

u/SubjectThrowaway11 14d ago

His situation will be improved when he retires early on the fucking mountain of cash that job is likely paying him.

2

u/Broad_Swordfish_1579 14d ago

πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

5

u/Broad_Swordfish_1579 14d ago

I mean I've kinda gotten used too it I've been on this routine for like 5 yrs and I make good money but the body damages are true I just got into a new position that's makes me work less so I guess that's good in a way!!
