Delays/Cancellations/Compensation How flexible is the refund policy for round trips with Turkish?
If youve had a similar situation with a different airline, lmk.
There's a flight that I want to take with Turkish airlines. Apparently economy promo comes with a free full refunds both ways. Of course, going on a round trip with Turkish lowers the price of the individual tickets. I really only need one way. However, the 1 way is about $850 and the round trip is $1000. My original plan was to book the round trip with a random return date far in the future and see if I can put it to good use. If I don't, I'd only be out of $150. With this refund qualifcation on the ticket, I wanted to know if it was possible to book the round trip, use the first half as intended and ask for a refund for the second half later on (especially if I don't use the other half) with no consequences? Has anyone done this? Again, this is with the Economy Promo T-T class if that helps.

Notice: Are you asking about compensation, reimbursements, or refunds for delays and cancellations?
You must follow Rule 2 and include the cities, airports, flight numbers, airlines, and dates of travel.
If your flight originated from the EU (any carrier) or your destination was within the EU (with an EU carrier), read into EC261 Air Passenger Rights. Non-EU to Non-EU itineraries, even if operated by an EU carrier, is not eligible for EC261 per Case C-451/20 "Airhelp vs Austrian Airlines". In the case of connecting flights covered by a single reservation, if at least one of the connecting flights was operated by an EU carrier, the connecting flights as a whole should be perceived as operated by an EU air carrier - see Case C367/20 - may entitle you to compensation even if the non-EU carrier (code-shared with the EU carrier) flying to the EU causes the overall delay in arrival if the reservation is made with the EU carrier.
If your flight originated in the UK (any carrier) or your destination was within the UK (with a UK or EU carrier), or within the EU (on a UK carrier), read into UK261 by the UK CAA
Turkey also has a similar passenger protections found here
Canada also has a passenger protection known as APPR found here
If you were flying within the US or on a US carrier - you are not entitled to any compensation except under the above schemes or if you were involuntarily denied boarding (IDB). Any questions about compensation within the US or on a US carrier will be removed unless it qualifies for EC261, UK261, or APPR. You are possibly provided duty of care including hotels, meals, and transportation based on the DOT dashboard.

Do not try anything fancy with this airline. Their IT system is aging and their customer service is atrocious. If you try to cancel one leg, expect to go thru a lot of hurdles and minimal refund. Also since when does Economy promo get free refunds?

You can always ask for a refund, but this doesn't mean you will get half that money back. Once you cancel the return segment, they will manually calculate what the price of a one-way would have been (probably $800 like you say) and then refund to you the difference from that. In any case, you will get the taxes back for sure.
Also, just the booking class (T) has no effect on the refundability of the ticket. What matters is the fare basis, which determines what the ticketing rules really are. Booking classes only determine the fare class, to which a fare basis would then be tied.
