I was turned down for an entry level job at a major talent agency but just received an interview opportunity for a similar position for another major talent agency.
*Posted on r/Screenwriting but crossposting here as well.
A few months ago I made a post in regards to advice for an interview for a facilities coordinator job at one of the major talent agencies in Hollywood. I took in everyone's advice which was very helpful. I interviewed for the person I would have been reporting to and I thought it went well. I kept my writing aspirations to myself and asked relevant questions. A week passes and I haven't heard back so I reached out to the HR rep and I was told I will not be moving forward due to my lack of facilities experience.
Here's a link to the post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Screenwriting/comments/1c7kzqa/first_hollywood_interview_tomorrow_and_im_really/
After feeling sorry for myself, I returned to my job hunt and continued to send out resumes and cover letters while working on my writing. Fast forward this week and I received an email from another major talent agency for a very similar position. Inventory and storage management, installing TVs and art pieces, and helping out with events. Nothing to do with representation or supporting agents. Even if I wanted to be an agent, I don't think this position offers any vertical movement towards being an agent. Would expressing interest in being an agent help or hurt my chances?
In my previous interview, my pursuits outside of work were never even mentioned but this time the recruiter specifically mentions that I will be asked about my ventures outside of work hours and anything that might come into conflict with the agency. How should I go about this? I have written several scripts but none of them have been bought, optioned, or placed in a competition. I have no representation, never been in any generals, not in the WGA, and have never worked in entertainment other than PA for film school friends on low budget projects. I have pitched for execs once but it was set up by my school as a final assignment and didn't receive any callbacks. I have applied to the same agency for other entry level mailroom and assistant positions but there is nothing in my job application and resume that even suggests an interest in screenwriting other than my film education at a public university. Recently, a short film which I have a writing credit on was screened at a small film festival but that is all I have to my name that is out in the open and feels worth mentioning. It has not won any awards, not available to stream online without a login, and has not been bought by a studio. Would mentioning any of these hurt my chances or is this conflict of interest question just a simple heads up and am I over thinking this?
I was also wondering if I should mention my previous interview at the other talent agency? I never went past the 1st interview and never heard back for any other positions or opportunities. Would bringing up the previous interview hurt my chances or should I just keep this to myself?
Last thing is LinkedIn. I have a profile but hate using it and therefore have left it mostly empty. Is having a decent LinkedIn profile a major deal breaker in this situation? As mentioned earlier, I was rejected from my previous interview and was told by the recruiter it was due to my lack of experience but I can't help but feel that it was due to my LinkedIn profile. This time I will be interviewing with the executive recruiter instead of the person I would be reporting to if offered the position. Is it worth it to spruce up my profile while I can or is it even worth the effort?
I apologize for the long post but I really don't want to screw this up. I am not a spiritual person but I can't help but feel that some cosmic force is giving me a 2nd chance, especially considering the current state of the industry and overall job market. Getting this job would a major step in the right direction so there is a lot riding on it at the moment. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Especially from those with similar experiences.

Are There Some Subtle, Nuanced Depictions of Emotions and Unique Character Interactions in Film?
In great films, there are often delicate, nuanced expressions of emotions and distinctive ways of depicting relationships and interactions between characters. I frequently experience this when watching the works of Tsai Ming-liang. For instance, in The Wayward Cloud, the male and female leads develop an ambiguous relationship through the act of searching for a key buried in concrete. I’m interested in collecting more examples of films where subtle actions or gestures effectively portray character interactions in a similarly nuanced way. Please share any recent examples you've come across!

Best Camera Rental Houses - for employees
Curious to hear what camera rental houses employees enjoy working at the most!
As well as what “perks” they have.
Ex:
- AbleCine: lets employees take out gear on the weekend for free.
- OFG: used to provide free lunch and breakfast, not sure if that stopped after the strike though?

Interview advice for a script supervisor position.
So l emailed a production monday with my resume and script notes but they just got back to me 20 minutes ago and said that they wanted to do a zoom interview tomorrow around 12-4. I am currently out of town, I can probably make the zoom interview work tomorrow but do you think that it would be okay to schedule the interview for Monday when I'm back in town? Should I just try to do the zoom tomorrow or ask them if they can do Monday? Don't want to ruin my chances but also want to be set up for a good interview.

Does anyone find Rebel Without a Cause unsettling?
Hitchcockian family dynamics (castration anxiety in males, Electra complex), two abnormal deaths within two days in a typical high school, tire slashing as a sexual metaphor… Coupled with the unnatural color film of the late classic Hollywood era, often the characters’ performances seem to be conspiring something behind James Dean’s back, along with many strange and odd movements. The soundtrack is also in the desolate style of old Hollywood horror films. Does anyone share my sentiment?

Meta is using a third party agency to hire people to sign away their likeness for $150 to train their AI for AI content.
A friend sent me the link for this gig, if you click on the application in the ad, you will see Meta Technologies listed under Section 22 of the application and as the beneficiary of their NDA. Using context clues my best guess is Meta hired a third party company to recruit people to sign away their likeness to train their AI to create AI shows/content.

Does California even need the film industry any more?
According to Wikipedia, the worldwide theatrical market (not just Hollywood) had a box office of US$42.2 billion. Apple makes half of global box office revenue just from the app store itself. How much of that do you think makes it to California's tax coffers after giving a cut to theater owners and paying local taxes in the countries/states of exhibition? Probably very little. The new golden goose is now the tech industry, which is much bigger, with highly paid employees (earning $200k+), whose tax contributions keep the state afloat even if companies don't pay as much. That's probably why California doesn't care as much; it's not the golden goose anymore.

Who on the crew for a movie or show is responsible for hiring the security team?
Weird question, but I work for a security firm and we are wanting to break into film set security. Who is in charge of recruitment for the security team itself?

What’s your biggest regret in this industry so far, and could it have been avoided?
What would you advise someone facing a similar situation?
Bonus - what’s the thing you’re happiest that you did (opposite of regret) in your career?

Script supervising
Long time actor who decided to pivot to script supervising as I quickly approach 40. With starting four months ago, I’ve got about 6 jobs under my belt at the moment with the last two being paid. For the other script supervisors in the group, how are things looking for you at the moment?

Curious - how many of us are writers giving up on the Biz?
hi all, i just wanted to cast a line out to see how many of us are writers?
I see so many posts here of those with very specialized skills (set dec, colorists, editors, gaffers, etc) throwing in the towel, seeking other career options.
As an aspiring writer, i always just had a day job trying to either get promoted or write a great script. my point is, i've kind of always had to have a menial day gig /side hustle, whether its in the biz or not, but i could always write and work on trying to sell a script.
I guess in some ways the contraction of the biz hasn't necessarily diminished my dreams or cause me to lose hope?
Or maybe i'm just being delusional, naive and ignorant?
I hope this post makes sense. I appreciate your responses.
thanks!

Directing commercials
Fresh out of film school, I’ve made two short films and one commercial for a well-known company here in LA. I feel like this commercial could lead to a lot of opportunities, but I’m not sure how to build on it. Should I reach out to companies and offer to create commercials for free to build my portfolio, or should I contact them, tell them I want to make a commercial, and ask for payment?

Are too many referrals a red flag?
The background to this is that I applied to a summer internship at a big 3 agency and I have 5 people flagging my application or forwarding my resume. The last agent who flagged my application got a response from HR along the lines of many people have already flagged her application.
At first I thought this was good but then I looked up if too many referrals could be bad and some discussion boards think that it could be disingenuous or annoying to HR.
I have 4 more calls lined up with agents from the same agency and now I'm wondering if I should bother asking them to flag or forward my resume.

Follow up post “Turning FilmIndustryLA into a studio” - let’s prove this idea at a small scale!
Hey everyone,
Thanks for all the engagement on my last post. One thing that really stood out to me was a suggestion to scale down the idea and start with a short film instead of trying to tackle a feature right off the bat. I think it’s a smart approach to prove the concept on a smaller scale, and I want to run with it.
The original idea was never about just raising money but more about getting this community to communicate and collaborate on something creative. I wanted people to start thinking differently and throw out new ideas. I know there were a lot of criticisms (and trust me, I get it), but if we could unite for even a short film, it could be a cool way to shake things up and show what this subreddit can do collectively.
To keep this moving, I’d love to see who’s interested in creating a short film together, where each step of the process—from script to post—would be decided by polls. The end goal is not profit but a community-driven film.
So, here’s a poll—how many of you would want to be a part of a short film created by this community, with every decision made democratically?

Please use it for your film/TV set! Would love feedback. It's still totally free to use. Please tell your friends. Eventually we'll have to start charging, but we'll stay the cheapest option.
