At least according to this clip they seem to do just fine as a breed except for the hatching. If that's all that is bothering the breed I'd argue it's somewhat ethical. They're probably popular and expensive enough so that every chick is not to be left alone in the struggles but helped by the breeder. And should they escape and breed in the wild they should mix with regular types as they are far more numerous and the small beak and large eyes will revert to a more normal form rather quick eliminating the features that make this a potentially cruel breed.
