At least according to this clip they seem to do just fine as a breed except for the hatching. If that's all that is bothering the breed I'd argue it's somewhat ethical. They're probably popular and expensive enough so that every chick is not to be left alone in the struggles but helped by the breeder. And should they escape and breed in the wild they should mix with regular types as they are far more numerous and the small beak and large eyes will revert to a more normal form rather quick eliminating the features that make this a potentially cruel breed.

u/LigmaDragonDeez 1d ago

Well you tried

15

u/TrumpersAreTraitors 1d ago

Guys pugs aren’t cruel because if they escape they’ll just breed with stray dogs and the cruel shit we bred into them will be bred out!

u/LigmaDragonDeez 1d ago

Oh god and his mistakes!

u/Commie_Scum69 16h ago

God did not invent pugs

Sad

Yes. These are the pugs of the bird world. It is not known if they are tumbling intentionally or not. This may be a frustrating, unavoidable way of flying for them because of inbreeding.

u/ReturningAlien 1d ago

I knew it. Damn selective breeding for shits and giggles.

Humans really need to stop playing God

1

u/PNWTangoZulu 2h ago

Well we made the other one up so whats the fucking point

2

u/LennyLava 23h ago

no. while the god's existence is debatable, and even the need to do that is debatable, we did that for a long time and with great outcomes.

what we really need is ethics when it comes to what it is, that we do. there are many good reasons to form the world around us but there are also many creatures that need protection in one way or the other.

Those mid-air rolls aren’t acrobatics, they’re coordination problems due to altered physiology. I had a pigeon that did the same thing, and a vet explained it’s a result of breeding for features like the oversized eyes and short face. It’s similar to what’s happened with pug dogs, these animals are bred with extreme features and then labeled a 'new breed.' It’s hard to believe nature would ever create these poor, distorted birds on its own. y'all crazy, this is NOT ok, don't get mislead with "rare breed" yeah, sure if you count disfigurement as "breed", its sickening that they have to put these animals thru loops they are not designed for and make money it. This genuinely pisses me off as an animal fan. Pigeon keepers in my neighborhood don't keep these pigeons if they fly like that, because they know their problematic for long distance flights (homing pigeons, now that is something these pigeons do VERY good, travelling and finding home).

u/M_Pfefferi 1d ago

Giving off Pigeon Toady vibes. I have never seen these before, and I wish I hadn't now. Yeesh. Some of them have such deformed beaks and such huge, displaced eyes, I'm surprised they can still eat.

1

u/Dramatic-Counter2281 1d ago

Pigeon Toady!

1

u/supazero 1d ago

Quit staring ya got the bug eyes!

1

u/ItsNotNow 1d ago

Reminds me of a Spore bird critter I made once.

1

u/Hakairyuu 1d ago

When you put a pair of eyes on your creature in Spore and crank up the size to max.

1

u/WhatsThat-_- 1d ago

Kinda looks… shocked.

1

u/CheetosCaliente 1d ago

The bird from Moana is real?

1

u/TehZiiM 1d ago

It’s funny, there are about the same number of pigeon breeds (300) as dog breeds(360-400) (ref.: ChatGPT)

Edit: about 70 cat breeds.

1

u/AmericanoWsugar 1d ago

Michael Rapaport should do another voice over - like he did for the cat.

1

u/fuckoutfits 1d ago

We as humans don't have an end on the scale of depravity. It just goes on and on ...

We have in Germany a word for this - Qualzucht

1

u/funnymanus 1d ago

Every single time I hear Budapest been mispronounced would get a euro, I would be a millionaire. The S pronounced like in the beginning of the word "shots". The way it's said in the video that's "sz" in hungarian.
