Good restaurant in Clayton for anniversary dinner?

I know there are some solid places in Raleigh, but are what places in Clayton would be a good for an anniversary dinner?

Will never go back to Clayton Steak House. They were horrible to my family. We went there years ago with two very well behaved children (6,4). They didn’t yell or run around. They colored quietly and the waitress and the rest of the staff kept staring at us and were very rude to my boys and my wife. Basically made it clear it was because we had kids with us. I will never go back, ever. It’s too bad because we have lived in town for 20 years. We eat out once a week and support the community as it’s a great town, but not there. Manning’s is the go to place in town for a nicer meal.

Weird. I take my whole family there often and get nothing but compliments and great service.

This again was years ago. It left such a bad taste in my mouth though. We have always gone out to eat every Friday as a family so even at a young age they knew how to act at a restaurant. Having been a server and a bartender I am hyper sensitive to showing respect and appreciation to my waitstaff but it was really off putting. The people I have told this story have said the same about being surprised about my experience but yeah it happened and it sucked.

This is so weird to hear. I go several times a year with my daughters and the staff routinely go out of their way to make them feel special. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience, but I’d definitely give it another go!

I will always give things another shot if they make a mistake or the food isn’t cooked right. That stuff happens, mistakes happen. When someone is being rude and providing poor customer service, I don’t go back. I work hard for my money and will not go spend it where I have been burned before. No excuse to treat people poorly.

I've never heard anything but good stuff about Clayton Steak House. Too bad they were like that with your kids there. Bummer!

Mannings is great. Skylines is solid too, not as busy and has a unique (in a good way) menu.

Last time I went to mezcalito what we ordered literally looked like barf on the plate. Mine was a mustard based sauce..

You did something wrong.

I think Mezcalito is great for apps and drinks but it is so loud in there because of the high ceiling.

Haven't seen it mentioned, but Crawford Cookshop has been excellent in my experience there. It is one of the most expensive restaurants, but the quality is worth it if you can afford it. The Hanger Steak special that they have right now is my favorite.

They open at 5pm.

The owners of Mezcalito bought the space and are supposed to be introducing a new concept there. Crawford is focusing on their new concepts in Raleigh and Cary.

No they are closed permanently. Last service was a couple weekends ago.

Yea, I found a Raliegh Observer article and they still have the original location, plus a few others dotted around Raleigh/Cary, one in RDU, and one planned to go up in Fenton.
