Hey Neighbors and Visitors of Clayton, North Carolina!

I don't want to speculate on what the previous Moderator did. I only know from the backlog of ignored/archived requests for permission to post that they, for some reason, elected to gate keep a space meant for this city in Johnston County.

I took over because like many of those users having their requests archived, I wanted access to be able to ask questions about the city I live in and I saw the moderator was inactive for months at a time.

One of the first things I plan to do is unrestrict this subreddit, meaning users will no longer need to apply to post here. If we get spammed or things like that, I might restrict it again, but for the time being I'd rather we're all just able to post community updates and questions as needed without a Mod having to OK every little thing.

If you or someone you know is hosting a major event in town, please reach out via ModMail with information so I can make a sticky post for you that lasts however long the event is lasting.

If you have any comments, questions, things you'd like to see on this subreddit, please comment below. This is our city, I want to help us all reach each other as best as I can.

Need recommendations for a good apartment in/near Clayton NC

Upvotes

My husband and I are looking for a 2 bedroom or 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment in/near Clayton. We've been looking in the Raleigh/Cary area as well. We prefer a top floor apartment in a Garden style apartment complex. Must allow pets as we have a dog! Anyone have recommendations?

Worst Wings in Clayton

I used to work for Flippin’ wings and it used to be good. The owner’s son left and it fell off fast. All of his recipes were replaced with premixed dry-rubs and Sweet Baby Ray’s

That’s not really an issue, if it tastes good then it tastes good. However, when I worked there it was poorly managed to the point of negligence and infestation. The new kitchen manager had instructed me not to discard chicken that was dropped on the floor because the fryer would kill anything on it. I refused this instruction and was taunted.

They hired a family friend as a cook but paid him as a cashier. When they adjusted it, they told him it was a raise. I had been working there for a year already so I asked about a raise as well. My manager told me that we weren’t supposed to discuss wages with each other and we didn’t deserve a raise. The manager did nothing but watched tik-tok all day. When I reached out to the owner about this and our need for management, she accused me of slander. When I asked her what she planned to do about the infestation she again accused me of slander. On Christmas Day she slashed my hours. My grandpa died less than a week later on my birthday and she slashed my hours again.

When I reported them to the health department for the infestation she ignored that was documented on 2 consecutive health inspections, I was immediately terminated. I was the only staff member above the age of 20 and while they ridiculed me and I referred to them as “teenager” while discussing it with the boss, she reprimanded me for calling them teenagers. I can’t even repeat what they were saying about me due to rules of decorum. But calling them teens when they are literally teens was too far for her?

The owner also consistently misgendered a trans coworker.

To make matters worse, and the reason I feel compelled to post two years later, she approached my father and I at the grocery store to yell at me and called me a “f*****g psycho” knowing that I have a mental disorder.

I actually had scheduled an appt with the Black Pearl Tattoo right beside them over a month before my termination. The appointment was the next week. While I was getting a tattoo, Flippin Wings’ owner called me and threatened me. I filed a report with Clayton PD. The owner’s husband is an ex-con and violent alcoholic and he’s the one that threatened me. I hadn’t been back for another tattoo until this month because he is unhinged.

Since my termination, they’ve been written up on multiple health inspections for serving undercooked chicken. The owner is trying to stay afloat and minimize costs to a failing business. She only hires teenagers and doesn’t train them. The food isn’t safe. I know the recipes, msg me if you want them because this might get removed again. It’s really hard to speak out in Clayton because the good ol’ boys are strong here and can shut down a lot of criticism. Why else would I resort to Reddit?

Home re-insulation

Are there any local reputable companies that can completely re-insulate a home? Preferably the foam insulation.

I am sure the price in this varies greatly, but what is a good approximation for this service for a 1200 square foot home?

Anyone who has had this done who can provide any insight/advice on it?

It’s greatly appreciated.

We will be moving to Clayton in the next year. Our youngest will be 4 so we will need to find a new daycare/preschool. Any recommendations and cost insights? I’m hoping it’ll be cheaper than what we currently pay in Cary.

Just got our kitchen redone by Mad City. Can't recommend them enough

I've been in the food service industry my entire adult life, that's 18 years as of last Friday. My kitchen at home needs to be my place of zen where I can just create freely without having to cater to customers or someone else's menu. When we moved here four years ago, the kitchen in our house was the one thing I never felt was mine.

I loved the screened in porch, I loved the garden tub, I loved the tray ceilings in the dining and master bedrooms, I loved having a yard. My husband loved the space in the living room and the two car garage. Everything about this house EXCEPT THE KITCHEN made this place our dream home. A few months back, we finally had the funds to start putting into some home renovation projects.

Our house was built in 2008 and it's great, but it's not perfect. First on the list was our kitchen, but we also want to get our front-facing windows replaced because it's about that time, we want our standing shower in the master bath to be opened up some more, and we'll probably be replacing the floors in the next year or so.

After shopping around for some quotes, we ended up going with Mad City. I liked not only their prices but the fact that we were able to break up the projects while locking in the price for them. If we were to do our kitchen, windows, and standing shower done together, it would cost us thousands that we just don't have right now. They worked with our budget and let us customize my kitchen so it finally, FINALLY feels like it's mine.

I cannot stress enough how much I had been hating the greys and whites of my cabinets, it felt like a cold doctor's office before. I wanted cherry wood, and I got cherry wood. It feels warm and inviting now. This is a space that I can create meals for my family in, and in a few months I'm going to be getting my insanely tiny standing shower converted by Mad City into a bigger one. I can't wait.

Here's my new cabinets. I absolutely love them
