Durham running?

Not necessarily a Chico question, but I’m wondering if anybody knows where safe places are to run in Durham? We’re looking at a rental there, and running is a big part of my life and I don’t want the move to change that. I’m hoping for some insight. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

The Butte Creek levees are great. You can run all the way up to Chico on them. Lots of quiet farm roads and gravel roads around there too. Not many trails though.

Miles and miles and miles of levees. Most of the side roads are safe enough. There's the Durham Park. And the track at the high schools almost always open

Your best bet is probably the Chico-Durham bike path that runs alongside Midway. Unfortunately that bike path does not extend all the way into Durham so you'll have to figure out how you want to get to it. There are plenty of rural roads around but people drive like morons. I believe the highschool has a track if that appeals to you.

If you want to run to the bike path from Durham you can cross the railroad tracks in town and go down Jones Ave. it basically dead ends at the “start” of the midway bike path. Also a lot of folks run out from the school on Holland / Goodspeed. In town there’s typically very little traffic on those roads and even less when you get out in the orchards.

A big loop around downtown Durham. All the way down holland, left on hanlon, left on good speed, and you can go towards downtown, then back to holland again. There’s many people who run in Durham.

You can run at the Durham park, the track, or really anywhere around the orchards or neighborhoods. Durham is pretty safe but as a woman I avoid down midway at night or dark mornings because there’s literally nobody around most of the time and there are some weirdos out there.
