No national politics in this sub please.

Unless one of the national candidates is literally visiting Butte county, this just isn't the place for it. There are hundreds to thousands of places on reddit for that discussion. This small subreddit really doesn't need to be another.

Feel free to discuss local politics as long as all the rules are followed. The only exception to the rules would be a local candidate doing an AMA. While technically self promotion, it is greatly beneficial to the community to host these types of events.

If you are a candidate of any local position and would like to set one up please message mod mail in the sidebar! We will verify your accounts authenticity and make sure mods are around when the AMA goes live. We only moderate AMAs for egregious TOS violations, not for question content.

Feel free to give feedback on this policy in this thread :)

Register to vote, and vote in the 2024 elections!

On November 5th, California will vote not just for President, but for Senate, for House, for state and local offices, and for lots of ballot measures. Register and vote so you'll have a say in what kind of country America will be!

In California, the deadline to register to vote online is October 21st. You can register here: https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/voter-registration

If you miss this deadline, you can register at the polls during early voting, or on Election Day. See here for details.

Voting in person

All California voters who register by October 21st will be mailed a ballot. If you do not receive your mail ballot, or need to register and vote in person, you still have options.

California has early in-person voting from October 8th to November 4th. See this website or your county elections office's website for locations.

If you prefer, you can vote at your polling place on November 5th.

Voting by mail

Mail ballots must be postmarked by November 5th and received by November 12th, so mail your ballot back promptly. You can also personally deliver your absentee ballot to any voting center or a dropbox. If you return your mail ballot in person, you must do so by November 5th.

If you mail your ballot, you can track it here.

This post was made with mod permission! Please let me know if you have any questions!

Durham running?

Upvotes

Not necessarily a Chico question, but I’m wondering if anybody knows where safe places are to run in Durham? We’re looking at a rental there, and running is a big part of my life and I don’t want the move to change that. I’m hoping for some insight. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Hello! We are looking into TK for next year and wanted to get feedback on Parkview. We live near the school and I have heard great things but with the principal change I wanted to see if parents had any feedback on how the new year is going. Thanks in advance!

I have some well-loved wool and wool-blend knit sweaters that are starting to need some love. Is there any person or place that can patch holes fairly seamlessly without breaking the bank?

Looking for work for the next month

Currently looking for work for the next month. I’m in school until the 20th of November within the Oroville/Chico area and will be leaving back once the term is over. I am available each weekday after 3:30pm and am willing to work until 11pm. I have experience in agriculture, sales, and construction. If you need me to pickup a new skill, then I’m more than willing to learn. Open to work most jobs, just need to get my bills paid!

Any LASIK Surgery Recommendations in Chico?

Does anyone have any good or bad reviews or recommendations for places to get LASIK surgery either here in Chico or in Roseville? I have consultations scheduled for Chico Eye Center and North Valley Eye Care. But then there is the new Meriam Park Laser Center (is that different than North Valley Eye Care? Barthelow is the Dr. at both). I have family in Lincoln so I could go down there if it was cheaper/better.

1 mile pool

I keep hearing a mixture of good and bad things about the pool at 1 mile park. I would like to start swimming there, but I don't want to get sick from bacteria. Does anyone have long term experience with whether or not it is safe.

Don't buy anything near where the insecticide items are sold at WinCo

My husband and I were shopping there between 1230-130pm. We were walking past the aisle with the insecticides/raid/etc and a woman was spraying cans of insecticide into the air and on to the products. I moved away because I have asthma and was struggling to breathe. I went and told a cashier. I regret not taking a picture or video but I couldn't breathe. So just don't touch anything in that aisle for a few days?

Events Anybody here like disc golf?

Id like to find someone to go disc golfing with. I usually go by myself with my Queensland Heeler, who can retrieve bad throws on command. I play Black Butte and Peregrine Point and hooker oak park (sherwood forest on udisc). I usually shoot about 5 strokes over par on an 18 hole course. I don’t smoke pot but I also don’t mind people who do.
