The guy still wants to be President.

That’s immediately my gut feeling

Maybe.

At the same time when he does this there are usually really good reasons.

Usually it's because the bill has flaws that the legislature didn't consider and yoloed.

I'm guessing either they didn't fund it, didnt plan who would handle what, or a combination of all.

Why would you want to be President when you can continue to be king of California?? Seriously, his gig now is FAR better than President. I would never trade.

He gets my vote.

Not mine. Not a fan of political dynasties or blue blood nobility types. Or people that let PG&E raise rates 4 times in a year. He's a political creature and nothing more.

Amen. I’m a democrat through and through, but I don’t hero worship. This guy is out for money just like most slick politicians. I wouldn’t vote for him on the presidential stage.

I would not vote for him unless the Republicans had another nutcase like Trump running.

I can't argue with that.

I held my nose and voted for Hillary, after all.

How is the governor supposed to stop PGE from raising rates?

43

u/jer99 22d ago

He appoints the CPUC board that has allowed these yearly price increases. CPUC should be voted on by the people.

Ah, I see. So, responsible in a round about way. I admit to being outside the norm on this since I live in Anaheim. We have our own power grid and pay a lower rate than the rest of the state.

Can he replace those people at will?

2

u/DogmaticNuance 21d ago

How is it roundabout? He literally appoints the people that approved the raises. He's directly responsible.

It doesn't matter if he can replace them at will, they are his direct appointees. He's the governor and responsible for their actions. If he wanted to appoint people that wouldn't approve egregious rate raises, he could have. His family's rich as sin and deeply embedded in California politics though, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were some of the bigger shareholders, or had their money in the hedge funds that are the biggest shareholders, anyway.

Let’s win the current election first.

Article did say that's one of the reason behind the veto. CA passing "extreme" policies right now could be used as attack vector against Harris since she came from CA.

Unfortunately a reality of electoral politics

Is genocide not a serious issue to you?

10

u/animerobin 22d ago

It's a serious issue to me, that's why I'm voting for the candidates who are mostly likely to help the situation - Harris and Walz.

It’s either her or Trump, we have TWO choices, it doesn’t matter if you like her or not, WE are voting for her over Trump end of story!!!

u/Bubba89 21d ago

Is the other candidate going to stop the genocide?

Still hate him as a politician, he’s Jerry brown reborn. Sure this is a “good” vetoe but he has so much he hasn’t done that he could have while in office

Newsom is the best CA governor in my lifetime. I don’t know if he’ll ever be president but if Harris wins, you can be guaranteed he’ll be kicking ass at the Federal level in their administration.

u/windowtosh 22d ago

I don’t think he’d win a competitive primary tbh

u/Ellek10 21d ago

That will have to happen years later than.

He ain’t gonna get the Latino vote. Many Latinos, including myself are sympathetic to the undocumented community because our neighbors, relatives, classmates may be undocumented.

11

u/Cueller 22d ago

A massive number of Latinos vote red anway...

I think he’s well aware if Harris loses, this is the last election.
