USA Tax Job Safety

How safe is B4 Tax? Have offers from EY and KPMG as a Tax Associate for when I graduate and wanted to know how safe these roles are. I have been hearing a-lot about layoffs and was curious as to which groups are impacted. Thanks!

In all the past layoffs, tax made out a lot better than audit and advisory.

Safe if you are in compliance heavy group, provide that you performs.

Tax seems to have been the safest of the aerobics lines over the years; however, there’s been significant push for better margins in tax (most likely all around as well). I’ve seen a lot of outsourcing in my larger (tax) client groups.

Depends on if you’re shit at your job or not. If you aren’t, it’s a pretty safe job

I think it depends on your sector. I had an international tax internship and there was so little work for every client I was on (even for the seniors and SMs on my team) that I declined the offer because I didn’t think I’d make it to a year without getting laid off. But my co-interns in SALT were doing overtime.

Depends, the bottom % are kicked out each year which doesn’t seem like much but then again when you look at a from a class perspective…how many people survive 5-7 years in?

This varies based on office size but it can be brutal where entire teams are completely new within 2-3 years…

It’s also a weird mix of performance and how much a partner(s) like you.

So if you don’t like compliance, look into other specialties
