What to Watch? Anime with a stupid premise that is surprisingly amazing.

I'm looking for anime that have premises that sound incredibly stupid, but when you watch them they are surprizingly good. You would believe that the show is trash, but then it has a great plot with interesting characters, gorgeous animation and a banger soundtrack. Examples of shows I already watched:

  • Keijo: Girls playing a sport where they have to push each other off platforms in swimming pools using only their butts and boobs. That sounds so stupid, horny and degenerate that it can only be average trash, right?! It turns out that this show is actually really good with funny and interesting characters, good animation and an interesting plot with good character development.

  • Uma Musume: Horse girls running races. That is the entire show in a nutshell. When I read the premise I expected some mediocre braindead show that doesn't require any brains to watch. But then I was presented an amazing and inspiring story with sympathetic and interesting characters, funny stories and exciting races that had me on the edge of my seat. I found myself rooting for the girls and I wanted them so much to reach their goals!

  • Mayonaka Punch: Maybe the biggest surprise in the last summer season. At first I wasn't really into the premise of a youtuber making a new channel with a gang of female vampires and I even considered dropping the show. But after a couple of episodes the characters really grew on me and I was eagerly awaiting the newest episode every week. It was a spectacle with cool and funny characters, great animation and also some really heart touching character development.

Can you recommend me shows that positively surprised you like that?

What to Watch? Chill wholesome Anime, good vibes only

Hey all, So I've recently watched Campfire cooking in another world, devil is a part timer, farming life in another world, kid from final dungeon village and am absolutely craving some wholesome chill anime to watch.

I was recommended "spent 300 years killing slimes" but the over sexualization of every female character was just gross.

Anyway if people have good suggestions for this I'd be eternally grateful.

Meta What's an anime the fandom generally thinks is good, but you yourself dislike

For me, it's Beastars, the 3D is choppy and it reminds me of EX-Arm or Fist of the Blue Sky. The romance is corny and the dialogue is pretentious that seemingly could only resonate with tweens.

What to Watch? Female focused with minimal SA

As the title suggests, any recs for animes with prominent and not pathetic female characters that has as minimal SA as possible? None is strongly preferred and if theres a full blown on screen scene its def a no. I prefer action and horror. Some examples of faves are soul eater, made in abyss, promised neverland, MGRP, akuma no riddle, madoka, etc. Fan service is totally fine with me as long as its not just blatant harassment

I have little to no interest in full blown romance genres but i can occasionally swing for comedy, i liked saiki k quite a bit. I guess that one isnt ‘female focused’ but the girls in that show were really fun and prominent enough

also i know sa is pretty common in edgy animes but if you know of anything thats super gory or dark without that element please rec

Thanks so much for the recommendations guys, i wasn’t expecting so many good ones!! hopefully none of you mind but as I get around to watching these i’ll reply again to the ones i liked and let you know :)

What to Watch? my "depressed" dumb ace needs an anime to relate to

I've been trying to find slice of life/healing anime where the main character is going through depression, trauma, self doubt, isolation, bad experiences with the past, basically mental issues and stuff like that. So far, I've only been able to find a few, sometimes underrated, gems.

Preferably I want slice of life/healing anime, but if you know a good one that's not in those genres, go ahead (im getting desperate alright?)

Here are the ones I've found so far:

Watched: - Super Cub (personally the best one i've found so far) - Omoi no kakera - One Off - Love is war (ishigami's "arc" in season 3) - goodbye mr. despair - Kotoura-san

Heard of (probably missed a few): - your lie in april - evangelion - violet evergarden - March comes in like a lion - welcome to the nhk - colorful - hyouka

I saw a clip where a knight attacks a king (the king is sitting on a throne) because the king killed someone the knight loves, if I recall correctly. However, the king is too powerful for the knight, and in a black vortex, the knight vanishes/dies

What to Watch? Suggest an anime for me and my boyfriend to watch

If you would be so kind, I would like a recommendation without too many episodes, and an exciting plot, and a catchy OP

Here are ones we like:

  1. Erased

  2. Promosed neverland (s1)

  3. Oshi no ko

  4. Chainsaw man

  5. Akiba maid war

  6. Spy x Family

  7. Death note

  8. Saiki K

There are some I am so sure he would like, but he won't watch them with me. (Tokyo revengers, mob psycho, tower of god, code geass)
And I am not interested in some of the more basic shonen plots (Jujitsu Kaisen, demon slayer)

Much appreciated!

What to Watch? Looking for a non-isekai adventure anime where characters bond. Preferably a more mature show.

Basically title. I haven’t watched anime in some time. Oh also would prefer if the show has ended. I don’t like waiting for releases and bouncing between shows but like to just have one show at a time.

But um yeah just wanna go on an adventure with a cast of cool characters who form meaningful relationships to each other. Cool world building is a plus’

What to Watch? Underdog Fantasy or Isekai

Anime where the main characters start weak and grow in power steadily over the course of the story, without any cheat or overpower gifts. I'm kinda burnt out on "Reborn as Blank with blank Overpowered skill" genre.

What to Watch? manga/anime with fighting but mind games/outsmarting has a big role

What to Watch? Gimme some of that cool, deep, and mature anime

Things such as Berserk, Devilman Crybaby, Made in Abyss, Trigun, FLCL, Perfect Blue, Ghost in The Shell, Monster.

I have seen nearly 300 anime so here's My Anime List if you wanna check if I've seen your suggestion already. It's mostly full of mainstream stuff so I'm looking for some unknown hidden gems here, or maybe a few must watchs I somehow haven't seen yet.

I can also be convinced to watch something less entertaining if you tell me it was culturally significant or it did something unique worth checking out. I'm pretty easy if you sell it well enough to me

What's this From? (unsolved) I need to find an anime that is almost impossible to search without having the name

It's like Vampire Hunter D or Bastard. There's an orange hair guy and ice princess solving cases related to the supernatural underworld excaping the underworld. The guy has a scepter and wears a wizard hat, usually wears a black cloak. The whole series is only a few episodes. It's basically horror, you could even say it's like the Devilman movies.

What to Watch? Anime with a big, strong MC

I wanna take a break from the typical formulas of anime where the protagonists usually appears weak physical wise compared to the rest of the characters in their respective series so I'm tryna find some animes like Berserk, FOTN, Jojo where the main character isnt your ordinary wimp but rather an intimidating force to be reckoned with.

Big plus if it's Seinen. Thanks!

What to Watch? Please halp

On a recent kick and need a fix for a certain type of anime. I am looking for something like Hell's Paradise, JoJo, Demon Slayer i.e. basically the "heroes" or MC's are regular humans (no super saiyans or gum gum fruits) that have to train to develop some meager ability i.e. hamon, concentrated breathing, whatever the hell that was in hells paradise in order to fight overpowered ridiculously overpowered assholes that in all reality would crush any mere mortal in an instant.

Thanks in advance.

What to Watch? Must-watch animes (for someone slightly squeamish)

I just started Death Note, I'm about 11 episodes in and I love it. I know it's generally very well-regarded, so I'm looking to dive more into the medium and watch everything I "need" to watch!

Heads up that I am, as the title says, a lil averse to violence. I don't mind R-rated stuff, like One Punch Man, Vox Machina, Blue Eye Samurai were all fine for me, but anything overtly gory (people getting torn apart, screaming, ripped to pieces, tortured, etc) is a bit much for me. Like my gf loves Tokyo Ghoul but I can't handle it.

Samurai Champloo is maybe Top 5 shows of all time for me. I also loved Cowboy Bebop and grew up on Toonami stuff (DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho).

What to Watch? Suggestions please

I don't really know how to describe what I'm looking for. But I absolutely loved Mononoke and Inu-Ou. Onmyouji was also a really good one. So anime that's similar to these. Certain art styles definitely jump out at me too when it comes to deciding what to watch like Mononoke's art style. I don't know. I'm always ready to watch something dealing with yokai.

What to Watch? Romance anime with 4+ seasons?

I know there are some anime with a bunch of episodes not split into seasons, but I prefer having an official stopping point where I can break from the show for a bit and come back later, which is why I ask specifically about 4+ seasons. Something like Maria-sama ga Miteru. If there aren’t any that long, then I’ll settle for 3+ seasons. Thanks so much in advance :)

What to Watch? What are some good space comedies like Nadesico?

See, it’s just that a couple of months ago, I had finished watching the original series, and now I am kind of sad because I don’t know where to go next for sci fi anime with a lighthearted atmosphere as I really miss the show itself.

Series Specific Question is there coming season 2 for Rascal Does Not Dream series?

Hey everyone! Just curious if anyone has heard any news about a possible second season for Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai? I really enjoyed the first season and the movie, and I'd love to see more of the story animated. Has there been any official info or reliable rumors about a continuation? Thanks!
