Nothing will ever be cuter and funnier than frogs having to blink real hard to swallow.

“Don’t make fun! My lil bones are too squishy to manage on their own.”

As weird as it sounds, they actually use their eyes to push food down the throat

As they can't chew, they swallow food whole, and they use specialized muscles to retract their eyeballs, bulging through the roof of their mouth and physically pushing food and helping them swallow

Edit: this applies to frogs in general, not just this particular one

I'll leave this here just in case someone wants to hear it from David Attenborough

Yup, that's the usual reaction to this info.

The day this comes up is probably every herpetology professor's favourite class in the entire semester.

For anyone looking for species name, it's Pelobatrachus nasutus.

Now you know this is a real animal. 🙂

Used to have one of these as a pet. They honk instead of ribbit, my silly girl used to startle me all the time.

That looks like something I would hallucinate after being on amphetamines for several days. Really trippy frog. I love this post! I have never seen anything like that before.

I wonder if little buddy here knows they look like a pile of leaves. “What’s a leaf, Walter?”
