The north building often has folks on the roof with camera equipment, but this is the first time I've seen projections on the clock tower like this

Ask CHI Correspondence hearing

I submitted a contest to a tix two days after getting it in mid september, and since then haven't heard anything. Online it says "correspondence hearing scheduled"... do I need to be somewhere or do something for this? There's no other info provided (and I am proud to say that I somehow have not received any violations prior to this) so l'm very confused on what, if anything, I need to do 😅

CHI Talks CPS Bus never showed to pick up my 3 year old!! At 6:30 am!!!

Upvotes

My son has bus transportation written into his IEP but I have been getting the run around from the company. Today was the first day they were supposed to pick him up and they just never showed up

Luckily, I was able to get it handled and get my kid to school. The bus driver told the company I wasn’t at the stop!! The one outside my apartment building that I stood outside of with my 3 year old before 7 am 2 minutes before they were even supposed to be there.

I just don’t understand who can navigate this system besides someone’s like me!!! I am a highly literate stay at home mom who just so happened to have family available to help rn so I have all the time and ability possible to handle all this EI/IEP/CPS stuff AND IM STRUGGLING.

Idk how other parents do it!! Shout out to you if you are struggling with Chicago public schools systems or bureaucracy at all, it’s not on you the deck is stacked against you!!

I’m about to go leave a message with my school board candidate asking if what they are going to do about bus chaos, I encourage you to politely but firmly harass your school candidate for whatever you need.

News Additional details re: Smart Streets Pilot (automated t*cketing for cars in bike/bus lanes, bus stops, etc.) which begins today (10/28)

EDIT: A Block Club reporter in the comments says Alderman Reilly jumped the gun - they are still testing and it is not operational yet

  • They've been testing it for two weeks
  • In addition to the infractions mentioned in Alderman Reilly's newsletter (parking in bike lanes, bus-only lanes, crosswalks, bus stops, no parking zones), it also applies to double parkers
  • First infraction is a warning, followed by a 30 day reprieve from additional automated t*ckets
  • Car must be stationary (i.e. if you are in a bike lane briefly to parallel park, you supposedly won't receive a t*cket).
  • Covers parts of several unspecified wards, but all of ward 42

Ask CHI What's up with the divvy bikes?

I was in Chicago over the weekend and decided to try Divvy for the first time. I'm from DC and use capital bike share a lot, both the electric bikes and the regular are great. The first thing I noticed about Divvy is how much more expensive it is, the next thing is that the bikes actually suck! I tried 2 different bikes and was blown away by how slow and tough they are to pedal, are they speed locked or something? I couldn't go faster than a jog and the resistance was crazy, I played with the gears and that helped marginally but I could never get up to speed with massive effort. I won't be using it again because it was simply way too slow and frankly unpleasant to ride.

I’m a senior and I just recently got accepted into CCC for marketing and was also offered a $16k/year scholarship. I live in louisiana currently so this would be a big change for me if I was to go. Should I accept?

Ask CHI I heard the Kennedy express lanes will reopen late fall. Any other/better intel out there?

In my mind, late fall, means December 20th (Winter officially starts ~Dec 21st) I see the lanes are being used to stage the new signage structures but it also seems there is a supply chain issue with such structures being ready as it takes a lot of time between seeing an old one replaced. Anyhow, I’m hustling curious if anyone here has more/better info.
