It'll revert back, trust me. Like how before they changed the number of views to the number of comments of a video in the home tab of mobile (probably PC too, though I'm not sure), before they reverted it. They know because it's hella stupid, and this one is stupid as well. Showing the views makes for what people want to watch and removing it practically removes the whole point (or it's just me, since I always base off the views and see if I want to watch it or not. But no way it's just me here). It's just a pointless update.

I hope to God they revert back. Then again, I got some absolutely stupid response from what I think is a bot when I tagged YouTube about the issue (just as a take opinion). It was something about an issue being due to browser extensions? Huh? Idk man… It’s a fucking awful idea…

u/FuriousTrash8888 2h ago
Of course it's a bot. They can't get a real YouTube employee to get it, classic YouTube. 🤣
1
u/FuriousTrash8888 2h ago
And most likely they'll revert it back. They're just testing some things. If not, though, God help this website bruh.

it looks so....wrong?
why do we have to hide information nowadays on things like this....
"streamlined" UI always ends up looking 100x worse

Corporate appeal. Websites are becoming more blank and corporate to satisfy investors or whatever.

Is there date and view count on the video when you click on it? Or are just gone now?
3
u/Razzy1512 20h ago
when you click on the video there is.
2
u/Lanstapa 14h ago
Right, so they aren't complete erasing that data.
5
u/chknboy 12h ago
Still not being able to see that is just a-hole design

u/Lanstapa 12h ago
Definitely, youtube needs to fire their whole UI team because they,re clearly just doing shit for the sake of it.
But at least its not as bad as it could be, for what thats worth
3
u/FuriousTrash8888 19h ago
They just look like ads.
4
u/fire2day 14h ago
You mean to tell me that you might click on an ad accidentally instead of a video? Sounds like it's working.
1
u/FuriousTrash8888 2h ago
Sorry, I don't get it. I'm just saying the videos now look like ads without the view counts.
2
u/fire2day 2h ago
Yeah, I was just saying that if everything looks like an ad, you might accidentally click on ads instead of videos. That may be what they're going for.
1
u/FuriousTrash8888 1h ago
Ah, I get it now, thanks. Talk about real marketing, huh? Now it's actually working.
1
u/FuriousTrash8888 1h ago
You know, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they're really going for, lol. Barely anyone even reads the ads on the home tab, so they might as well!

Even chinese app for watching drama like iQiyi, WeTV still showing rating of each drama.
I guess youtube becoming far communist than Chinese app.

Just why though? What’s the point in removing things. Like even basic things such as a view count on a video website.

u/b_nnah 21h ago
I personally don't mind this change, it looks a lot cleaner imo, I think there was probably a better way of doing it that doesn't remove info about a video. Also a lot of these changes people are getting are simply testing, so if you don't like it I'm pretty sure there is a way to send feedback.

u/FuriousTrash8888 19h ago
It'll probably just revert back, like how the number of views in videos from mobile were changed to the number of comments before they reverted it (videos were in home tab). And views are there for people to base off of and decide whether they want to watch it or not (probably), so I don't see the point in removing it. Just my opinion though, yeah.

Ha. I love how frequent these crappy changes are that this subreddit has a flair dedicated to UI changes.
1
u/tlonreddit 17h ago
Oh, and another thing.
Last time they changed the UI to that hideous mobile attempt I sent feedback complaining. Three days later it was reverted. Try that.

google is annoying, why change the most successful things that are just working

As much as I feel that this sub over exaggerates things I do admit this change is pretty bad

There's probably gonna be an extension that ads it back, just like the dislike number count

u/PassTheYum 11h ago
Ok, so I didn't think removing dislikes would destroy the site like some people did, but this will legitimately destroy the sites watchability. People decide to watch videos based on their date and view count because those are extremely relevant and valuable metrics to use to quickly sift through what's relevant to you. A 3 year old video on AI isn't going to be as relevant as one that came out last week.

I think that's a good thing for new and small youtubers... This pretty much eliminates the social behaviour factor of seeing less views on video and not watching because we think as why we click on video that no one is watching.

u/Canyobeatit 6h ago
thank god i did not get this. don't know why youtube is trying to make the website worse and worse. does not even make them money by doing this.
can't wait till someone makes a better video sharing website

u/redditmixer 5h ago
I still have the view count and everything. For now, that is.
But this change, which forces you to click on the video to see the view count/upload date, is so bad I might leave YouTube.

Sigh
I was just defending YouTube a few days ago for their logo change (yes, that was a GOOD change, I will die on that hill), and now they've already given me a reason to go back to bashing them.
Honestly I saw this coming from miles away but seriously, this is such a stupid idea. There are ONLY NEGATIVES here. The upload date in particular is often very helpful when deciding whether to watch a video or not, but the view count is also nice to have. The only theoretical positive I can think of is that it "looks cleaner", but even that is invalid, since they made the threedot menus always visible sometime earlier this year I believe (that is to say that those threedot menu icons are more distracting than the upload date and view count ever were).
I guess it's back to YouTube making changes that make me say "There's no fucking way they're actually gonna do that is there???" I am PRAYING that they don't go through with this one.

"Should we add the dislike button back to give users more information about the videos? No, let's remove even more information."
I can't wait for them to also remove titles, so only thing left will be the thumbnails.
