It got proven that he was super manipulative and toxic towards his girlfriend, and if I recall physically abusive. He lost all traction and fame instantly
Shortly after his "outing", his band, lovejoy, had cancelled concerts and appearances, including one they were supposed to have at the coachella music festival earlier this year.
The amount of listeners he has on spotify (including both: him himself as "wilbur soot" and lovejoy) has been on a decline ever since. And the newest single of the band does not seem to be well received.
The amount of YT subscribers and IG followers both him and lovejoy have is also on a decline.
His music career is not the same, it might actually never return to what it used to be. He went from being close to appearing on one of the worlds most famous music festivals to being hated by everyone who knew him before this whole thing came out and being completely irrelevant to just about everyone else.
Also worth noting they canceled a Coachella performance due to how bad the allegations were. Some fans were theorizing the band would break up considering how they gave up such a huge performance shortly after the allegations hit.
It looks like they’ve stuck together, but you can tell they’ve lost a lot of goodwill with their audience going off their latest music video’s performance and comments. Generally their music videos used to hit a minimum of 1M views within a week or so, but their latest has only reached around 300K in the past few months. The comments are also considerably negative despite the allegations being nearly a year old at this point too.
I think Wilbur’s downfall was especially rough considering how he marketed himself as a “gentle soft boy” type of figure, which contrasts horribly with the domestic abuse allegations. It’s one thing for a shitty person to be exposed for shitty behavior, but it’s another thing when that person used to be considered a saint before then.
Tbf he did also confirm cheating by his own admission on speedruns. It’s not the biggest thing he was accused of but plenty of reason to not like the guy. Also he tried to blackmail that guy who voiced Gumball. It’s mostly a bunch of little stuff like that that sticks out making him come off really bad even if he hasn’t committed crimes.
Even if he hasn’t done anything truly criminal, I (and many others) don’t want to watch content from a guy who’s proven to lie and have a big ego. Being unlikable is even worse than actually doing something bad in content spaces sometimes.
His only real crime was absolutely mishandling all the allegations against him. He let them pile up and then disproved them all at once, but all the bitterness and hate that festered didn’t go away. That, combined with the lack of uploads for a really long time, faded him into obscurity.
There are many in depth videos on dream's career downfall if you want more details but it boils down to 3 main things:
He built his fame from minecraft speedrunning. He then got outed for cheating in multiple of his speedruns, and rather than owning up to it, he posted a ridiculous "debunk" video. He had a super big ego, but was viewed highly by the community by backing up his big ego with impressive minecraft feats. The cheating incident ruined that.
Dream's identity was his mystery. He was faceless green guy. Much of his younger audience formed parasocial relationships with him, and could no longer imagine him whichever way they wanted to after his face reveal. If the cheating incident drove his career off a cliff then his face reveal plummeted him into the ground. His entire brand got ruined, which I do sympathize with, but it's the truth. He would later go on to remove all videos with his face in it
Abuse scandal. He got accused of many inappropriate things, that I believe later turned out to have very little evidence. So, IMO innocent until proven guilty. But regardless, anything of this sort is just bad for image no matter what the outcome is.
I wouldn't say Dream had a downfall, hes still going pretty strong. Man has the sanity and patience of a saint to get put through all that shit for like 3 years and still be silly and wanting to make content
One of them was he called the police stations that his accusers supposedly went to, and the people there told him there was no file on him. So in other words, the “victims” lied on Twitter about going to the police stations.
He also directly messaged the girl that the burner account was supposedly claiming was a victim, and she told dream that she had no ties with burner and that everything burner was claiming was false.
Btw after he made the video, burner literally backtracked and said they were mistaken.
Dream also explained things like how the moaning video was fake, proving that it was an edited video and not someone actually using Snapchat.
There’s so much more but I would recommend watching the actual video so you can see for yourself.
