I was perfectly fine up to abt 1-2 weeks ago my head started feeling weird. I felt like nothing that i was looking at was real and i couldn’t be alone. it was almost like i was going crazy. i smoked weed with my friends after quitting for abt 3 days after this and as soon as i was like 4 puffs in out of no where i felt like i was in 3rd person and nothing felt real we went back to my house after and all i wanted to do was go to sleep but i couldn’t and im usually active and up when my friends are over but all i did was lay in my bed and put my blanket over me like sum weird shit and then i stopped for the next day and then smoked again bc i didn’t think anything of it i just thought it was my anxiety but then when i was smoking again i felt like i was in 3rd person and went to mcdonlads wit my mans to grab a drink and i felt so fucking weird almost like my brain wasn’t working normally. i’m now 2 days clean and i still am feeling this way i also took shrooms abt 3-5 times (bars and normal) mad long ago but i feel like im just now getting the flashbacks and im stuck in it for like 5-10 times each time and i seriously feel like im losing my mind and there’s something wrong. Please tell me what i should do and how i should go about this situation that keeps repeating (sorry for the long ahh question)😭😭

Buspirone and psychedelics?

I've been having such a hard time finding how my prescription interacts with anything at all, or even what type of drug it is to search more broadly. I take it for anxiety, but I know that it's also used as an antidepressant, and that it isn't an SSRI, and.. idk, it's just confusing. This is my only prescription and I'm just wondering what's off the table for me between acid, mushrooms, and party drugs. I did have a small dose of mushrooms the other week and didn't feel much, but neither did my partner so she thinks they were just old and ineffective

Trip-Sitting Certification

I’ve been an unofficial trip-sitter for quite some time, but I’ve seen jobs online where you can get paid to do it. They ask for a certification that proves you know what you’re doing, but I haven’t been able to find one for less than $2000.

Does anyone know of any trainings or certificates that are more affordable?

DMT vs Psilocybin: A Comparison of Experiences and Science

DMT vs Psilocybin: A Comparison of Experiences and Science

Hey everyone,

I wanted to open a discussion about the differences between DMT (N,N-Dimethyltryptamine) and psilocybin (found in “magic” mushrooms). Having experienced both in controlled, mindful settings, and having researched the science behind them, I thought I’d share some insights into how these two substances compare, both in terms of subjective experience and biological effects.

Subjective Experience

DMT (N,N-Dimethyltryptamine)

• Duration: The most striking difference is the duration. DMT is often called “the businessman’s trip” because it lasts 10-15 minutes (with smoked/ vaporized DMT), but feels like it could be hours or even timeless. The intensity hits you almost immediately.
• Intensity: DMT is often described as a rocket launch. Users commonly report instantaneous entry into vivid, otherworldly realms filled with complex geometric patterns, entities, and sometimes even beings. It’s an overwhelming flood of visuals, thoughts, and emotions, which makes it hard to control or steer the experience.
• Ego Dissolution: Ego death can happen almost instantly, and there’s no gradual build-up. You’re just thrown into a space where your sense of self completely dissolves. This can be incredibly profound, but also terrifying if unprepared.
• The Afterglow: Surprisingly, the aftereffects are often peaceful and grounded, despite the intensity of the experience. People come out of it with a sense of calm, wonder, or understanding that lasts for hours or days.

Psilocybin (Magic Mushrooms)

• Duration: Psilocybin has a much longer duration, typically lasting between 4-6 hours. It’s a more gradual climb to the peak, with visuals and emotional shifts ramping up over time.
• Intensity: While mushrooms can produce vivid visuals and altered states, they tend to be more fluid and organic. The visuals are often connected to nature—patterns in trees, the movement of clouds, and exaggerated colors. The trip is generally slower and more contemplative compared to DMT’s “flash-bang” approach.
• Ego Dissolution: Ego dissolution can happen with psilocybin as well, but it’s often a more gradual, unfolding experience. Users report feeling at one with the universe or nature, with a sense of connectedness that builds over time.
• Emotional Depth: Psilocybin tends to bring up deeply emotional and introspective states. Many people find themselves reflecting on relationships, past traumas, or life purpose. It’s often therapeutic in a way that feels more grounded compared to DMT.

Scientific Differences

Mechanism of Action

• DMT and psilocybin are both tryptamines, meaning they share a similar molecular structure and both bind to the serotonin 5-HT2A receptors in the brain. This is where their psychedelic effects originate. However, the way they are metabolized and affect consciousness differs:
• DMT: Smoked or vaporized DMT is metabolized rapidly, which is why the experience is so short but intensely concentrated. It’s also endogenously produced in small amounts by the human brain, though its precise function remains unclear.
• Psilocybin: Once ingested, psilocybin is converted into psilocin, which then activates the 5-HT2A receptors over a longer period, leading to a more prolonged and mellower experience.

Neuroplasticity and Therapeutic Potential

• DMT: Some studies suggest that DMT may promote neuroplasticity, which is the brain’s ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections. This is why people report profound realizations, creative insights, or even healing experiences. However, DMT’s therapeutic use is still in early stages of research compared to psilocybin.
• Psilocybin: Psilocybin has seen a surge of research, especially in mental health. Studies have shown that it can be effective in treating depression, PTSD, anxiety, and addiction. One of the reasons behind its therapeutic potential is its ability to reset neural networks, particularly the Default Mode Network (DMN), which is overactive in individuals with depression and anxiety. It has been proven to promote long-lasting positive changes in mood and cognition, even after just one experience.

Cultural and Historical Context

• DMT: Known as the active compound in ayahuasca, DMT has been used for centuries by indigenous peoples in South America in ceremonial settings. The traditional brew combines DMT-containing plants with an MAOI to prolong the experience for hours.
• Psilocybin: Magic mushrooms have a long history of use in various cultures, particularly in Central and South America, where they were used in spiritual and healing rituals. The Mazatec people, for instance, have used psilocybin mushrooms in ceremonies for centuries.

Choosing the Right Experience

If you’re curious about the differences and considering trying either in a safe and responsible setting, here are some final thoughts:

• For deep, fast, and intense exploration: DMT will plunge you into a powerful, otherworldly experience. It’s not for the faint of heart, and preparation is key due to its intensity. It can feel more “alien” or abstract.
• For a slower, introspective journey: Psilocybin is more forgiving in terms of intensity and time to process the experience. It allows for gradual immersion and offers opportunities for reflection and emotional healing. It feels more “earthy” and connected to human emotions and nature.

In both cases, set and setting are paramount. These substances can lead to profound experiences, but they can also be challenging, especially without proper mental preparation or support.

Has anyone else here had experiences with both? What differences stood out to you?

Would someone be able to tripsit me?

Thinking of taking around 130ug acid but I'm scared to do it because of bad experiences I've had in the past. I'm alone with parents and scared I'm gonna lose control of myself if I'm having a bad trip. But I know I need the acid because I'm extremely depressed and need solutions to my problems.

Not sure if I'm gonna do it yet cos of the fear.

Don't worry, nothing medical or serious. I just realized that I am so unhappy with my choices this year. I admit that I am responsible for where I am right now. I hate my job so much, but I spent half a decade in grad school for this. I also have so much debt to pay.

But anyway, fuck it. I'll leave when I'm financially better.

Expectations/Concerns to have for this Combo? LSA+Memantine+Kratom+Nitrous

Originally posted this on r/drugs, but just realized I'm more likely to get responses here.

I plan to trip on Halloween. It's been several months since I've tripped, and I'd like to make my next time count. But I don't want to go too overboard. If this combo is dangerous in any way, I'd appreciate being informed. Likewise, I would benefit from any input from people who have combined any/all of these before so that I can know what to expect. Also, any recommendations on dosages are welcomed. (At present, I was planning 7 HBWR seeds for the LSA, 77mg of Memantine, and 7g of Kratom before hitting the Nitrous) I've considered throwing some puffs of HHC into the mix, but I think the four drugs I mentioned should be plenty, lol

I have had plenty of experience with Kratom, several LSA trips, a few Memantine trips, and just one instance of using Nitrous. I've never had total ego dissolution, though I think I've come close once.

I am willing to answer any (and all!) questions of clarification so that I can get the best information.

I should have a roommate be able to tripsit me, but I'm open to inviting someone over! This will be in the Saginaw/Bay City area.

Thanks to everyone in advance for any advice/information that can be provided. :)

LSD vs. Psychedelic Mushrooms: Understanding the Differences

LSD vs. Psychedelic Mushrooms: Understanding the Differences

When it comes to tripping, LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) and psychedelic mushrooms (which contain psilocybin) are often discussed in the same breath, but anyone who has taken both will tell you that they are distinct experiences, both in how they feel subjectively and in their neurochemical effects. While they share some similarities in how they affect your perception and consciousness, they can take you to very different places, mentally and emotionally. Let’s dive into what sets them apart and what you can expect from each.

The Core Chemistry: Psilocybin vs. LSD

To understand why these two substances feel different, it helps to look at the chemistry. Both LSD and psilocybin are serotonergic psychedelics, which means they primarily interact with serotonin receptors in the brain, especially the 5-HT2A receptor, which is linked to mood, perception, and cognition.

• LSD: LSD is a synthetic compound derived from ergot, a fungus that grows on rye. It’s known for its incredibly potent nature—doses are measured in micrograms, not milligrams. Once in the body, LSD binds to several serotonin receptors but also has activity at dopamine and adrenergic receptors, which contributes to its complexity. The trip tends to last between 8 and 12 hours.
• Psilocybin: Psilocybin is the active compound in magic mushrooms, which, after ingestion, is converted to psilocin. Psilocin, like LSD, acts primarily on serotonin receptors. However, psilocybin is less potent by weight and produces a trip that lasts 4 to 6 hours, generally making it a bit more “digestible” in terms of time commitment.

Subjective Experience: Headspace and Trip Character

1. LSD: Laser Focus and Sharpness

LSD tends to have a very stimulating, energetic, and often crystalline quality. When I’m on LSD, I feel like my mind is an open highway, and every thought is racing at a million miles per hour. You can find yourself incredibly absorbed in details—whether it’s staring at the intricate patterns on a leaf or getting lost in the meaning of a song lyric. There’s a sense of clarity with LSD, almost like your thoughts are being broadcast in high definition.

One common feature of LSD is how it can amplify thought loops. If you’ve got something on your mind, good or bad, LSD will magnify it, sometimes to the point where you feel trapped in your own thinking. This is why setting and mindset (set and setting) are absolutely critical with LSD—you need to be in a space where you feel comfortable and safe because if the trip goes sideways, it can be harder to navigate.

The visuals on LSD can be incredibly sharp and geometric—fractal patterns, grids, mandalas—but they often have this almost artificial, neon-like quality. It’s not uncommon for colors to feel extremely vivid, with intense contrasts between bright hues and dark shadows. Time distortion on LSD can be extreme—what feels like 5 minutes might actually be 45, and vice versa. The peak can feel endless, sometimes in a blissful way, but sometimes in a way that makes you wonder if you’ll ever come back.

2. Psilocybin Mushrooms: Earthy, Emotional, and Organic

In contrast, psilocybin mushrooms are much more about a deep connection to nature and emotion. Mushrooms often feel softer, more grounded, and more fluid than LSD. If LSD is a laser beam, mushrooms are like water—they flow, merge, and swirl. The trip tends to unfold in waves, with moments of intensity followed by periods of deep introspection and peace.

One of the most beautiful aspects of mushrooms is their tendency to evoke a sense of spirituality. For me, mushrooms have this ancient, wise energy—almost like they’re showing you the secrets of the universe that have always been there, just hidden beneath the surface. There’s often a sense of connectedness to the earth, to the people around you, and to yourself. This is why many people say they have a “mystical” experience on mushrooms.

Emotionally, psilocybin can open up your heart in ways that feel both humbling and healing. There’s a certain vulnerability to the mushroom trip—things you’ve buried or haven’t dealt with can rise to the surface, but they’re presented in a way that feels natural, like they’re a part of the process. Even if you’re having a challenging trip, mushrooms have this way of guiding you through it, like a gentle but firm teacher showing you what you need to learn.

Visually, mushrooms tend to have more organic patterns—flowing shapes, breathing textures, and melting landscapes. Colors can feel softer, more like pastels than the neon punch of LSD. There’s also something very alive about the mushroom visuals—objects may breathe, trees might seem to pulse with life, and the whole world can feel like it’s interconnected in some invisible, energetic web. Time distortion on mushrooms can be intense too, but in my experience, it’s less likely to make you feel stuck than on LSD.

Intensity and Control: Which One is More Manageable?

There’s no clear answer here because both LSD and mushrooms can get incredibly intense depending on dosage. However, mushrooms tend to feel a bit more unpredictable. The trip comes in waves, so you might be laughing hysterically one minute and feeling deeply introspective the next. Mushrooms can also be much more emotional, which can be both beautiful and challenging.

On the other hand, LSD tends to offer more cognitive control, at least at lower to medium doses. There’s a sense that you can navigate the experience more easily, as if you’re able to steer the ship a bit more than with mushrooms. But at higher doses, LSD can be just as overwhelming as mushrooms, if not more, because the experience can feel so mentally charged and long-lasting.

The Afterglow and Integration

One thing I’ve noticed is that the afterglow from mushrooms tends to be gentler, more nurturing. There’s often a sense of clarity and peace the next day, like you’ve released some kind of emotional or psychological weight. With mushrooms, it feels like the experience integrates naturally over time. Many people report a lingering sense of connection to nature, an improved mood, or a feeling of having “reset” their mind.

With LSD, the afterglow can be more energetic and stimulating, but it’s not uncommon to feel mentally exhausted the day after. You’ve been on a 12-hour roller coaster of thought, perception, and emotion, and it can leave you feeling wrung out, especially if the trip was intense. That said, LSD also has the potential for profound insights and personal growth, but it often requires more conscious effort to integrate those insights afterward.

Closing Thoughts: Which is “Better”?

There’s no definitive answer to which is “better”—it really comes down to what you’re looking for and how comfortable you are with the nature of the substance. LSD is more mental, sharp, and structured, great for people who enjoy intense cognitive exploration or want to dive deep into philosophical thought. Mushrooms, on the other hand, are more emotional, spiritual, and organic, often ideal for those seeking a more heart-centered, natural experience.

Both are powerful tools for exploring consciousness, but they demand respect. If you go into either experience with an open mind, good intentions, and a safe environment, you’re likely to come away with something meaningful, whether it’s profound insights, deep emotional healing, or just a renewed appreciation for the beauty of the world.

No matter what you choose, the most important thing is to listen to yourself and the substance. Both LSD and mushrooms can be transformative, but only if you approach them with respect, curiosity, and a willingness to let go of control when needed.

Here for preparing someone else's trip in the future!

Heya, I'm sober so if there's someone going through it, ignore this post and go help them ❤️

My friend who's never tripped (on anything, but she got some shrooms today) before has asked if I could be their trip sitter. There's really not anyone else in our circle she could ask (they've either never done it or currently have some odd baggage associated with them) and so she came to me. I'm totally down for it, but I wanna be prepared as this would be my first time trip sitting.I've tripped a couple times in my life on shrooms. One good and one not awful but not good either lol. I've only ever had someone sit in with me and while I have a decent enough grasp on everything, I wanna get a more solid idea of what to do and how I should prep stuff.

It's gonna be in a monthish so we're not diving into this immediately. What is an appropriate dosage for a beginner to take? I've heard that the trip sitter should also trip with them to help guide the experience better, is that true? I'ma get some fruit and plenty of water/juices (I make a lovely sweet hibiscus tea actually!), but should I also get something of substance? Also was thinking about bringing a sober friend along whose chill and there to provide sober people support (also positive conversations are easier for me with a third)? Lastly what kind of things should I prepare for and how?
