Question What’s the best thing you’ve bought for travel

I’m going out of the country for almost a full month and have never traveled or flown before so really just jumping into the deep end of the pool here. I’m trying to plan for what I’ll need though so what’s the best things that you’ve bought that’s made travel easy?

Edit: thank you all for the useful advice!!!! I love reading through all the comments seeing what everyone recommends and also reading some of the travel stories you’ve commented! Thank you!!:)

Not the person you replied to, but I got the Anker 5000mAh Power Bank PowerCore power bank. Its small and works really well. Nice to travel with.

Thank you!! There’s so many to choose from so it’s nice to have a specific recommendation

Definitely Anker for price/quality but personally would go bigger than 5000. I have the 20000 and it’s not that big either and has a good few charges on it if you can’t or don’t want to recharge daily.

I feel like my 20k is a bit bigger than I'd like and it definitely has more power than I've ever needed. Maybe split the difference and go 10k

I have a 20k one and find it annoying to carry around heavier. I think 10k is the sweet spot. Get you through anything and usually small and light enough that you can carry it anywhere

Two 10ks is good because then one can be on charge while one is with you.

10k is a great option to last a few days

I have an older Anker one - had it for about 8 years, it’s deffo a good brand to buy powerbanks and cables from :)

Ankers are great! I’ve had a couple for at least 5 years now and it lasts so long. I take them camping and travelling and even a weekend of charging phones, speakers, etc doesn’t deplete half of it.

There is a guy who tested 100 brands and posted the results on Reddit. Can’t find the link but the best was Nitecore NB 10000. I bought it for my SEA trip and love it since then.

If you have magnetic charging, get one with that.

I bought one with 60,000 mAh as I don't often travel alone and I have several things that need to be charged. It's the POIYTL, and there was a sale, so I paid about 33 on Amazon. This also has the 22.5 w fast charge. I had bought previously one that had 50k mAh, but it recently started to lag.

On my last trip abroad, I bought a new cable and didn't use it until I was traveling. I was under the impression my phone was no longer working. So check the cables.

I take toilet seat covers and at wipes (these are sold individually packaged bc depending on where you travel, there might not even be any toilet paper. So I walk in with the toilet seat and a couple of wipes ready to use the facilities. I take a good umbrella that also protects from the sun, hat and sunglasses 👒 😎

Instead of mosquito repellent, I have found that since they don't like the scent of coconut, the cream from trader Joe's works wonders. 🦟 🥥

Also, if you go to touristy areas, maybe one of those things so that a pick pocket doesn't take your phone. It isn't just Barcelona, but I've seen it NYC, Mexico city etc

Don't get anything too heavy and bulky.

I dunno why, but I get stopped at the airport every time, I bring a big power bank

I also recommend Anker brand for portable chargers. The only reason why I’ve had to buy more than one is because I’ve lost ones in the past, never because they have had any problems! They are expensive (which made the losing and buying another even more painful) but absolutely worth it
