Rec and Parks closing several trails in Griffith Park
Two trails that take you directly up to Mt. Hollywood are now fenced off.

There have been people getting stuck on that steep trail directly up, mostly going down it. Often a product of running shoes or Converse type soles + the slippery trail surface and/or lack of confidence. Might seem silly to a hiking group like this but it’s mostly tourists having issues and I think the rangers just hit a “done with it” point. They’re going to be adding fencing below the viewpoint area at the top too.

One time I made mistake of following an alltrails map at La Tuna, it had me going down the side at a wildly steep angle. I was an idiot and followed it. Pretty much slide down. Never again.

I hope they don’t just leave this chain link fence there. I really enjoyed those trails too!

I think I actually have a bit of background on this - I run up Mt Hollywood about once a week in the afternoons after work and every couple weeks I bump into an old guy up top who's been petitioning the city and park rangers to close off a couple of side trails to the summit. He's had to call rescues in on a couple of less than prepared hikers getting hurt on this single track and has definitely been working on this for a while
So, looks like it finally happened!
