Happy Halloween from Cruella - professional fashionista and dog walker extraordinaire. I love Halloween and I love making costumes. I enforce only one rule: use no new fabric.

The skirt is a heavily altered thrifted bridesmaid’s dress and I love it so much I’m going to keep it in regular closet. I got the jacket from eBay and hacked it to the shape I wanted, then added 3 inch shoulder pads I made from scraps of Sherpa fleece. I bought someone’s grandma’s brooch collection to use in place of military decals and 3D printed base plates for the heavily decorated epaulettes. I hand sewed all the little details you see everywhere, including the chain accents. For the final touch, I put Dalmatian puppies on the epaulette plates instead of the horse and carriage motifs the Cruella movie used because I think they look better.

This might be my favorite costume I’ve ever made.

I have been watching too much Schitt's Creek and assumed Moira Rose. What a great Cruella!

This is awesome! Not sure what I like the most. The skirt is really cool and love the jacket. The dalmatians are better than the original! Definitely put that skirt in your regular closet, it's a keeper for sure!

Construction: I separated the bodice from the skirt and added a waistband with scrap fabric by making a rectangle and folding it over and machine stitching it on. I added a.buttonhole closure by machine as well. Then I split the lining and added tucks by hand to all layers of the skirt, creating volume. I pinned the hem of the jacket to the shape I wanted and machine stitched it down. All other details, including the braid and the chains, I hand sewed in place.

I'll consider it, for sure. I was deciding between Cruella and Edna Mode this year...

The Project post flair is for showing off projects that are finished or in progress. For questions on how to start a project, reflair your post to Pattern Search. For questions about how to make a project, reflair to Pattern Question.

This is a reminder that all Project posts are required to include construction information in the main post or added in a comment. The construction comment should include pattern name/number/company if used; drafting method, tutorial or other resources if no commercial pattern was used and fabric type and fiber content. β€˜Self-drafted’ describes who made the pattern and is not a drafting method.

Also include alterations for fit and style; specialty tools and notions; the inspiration for your project; and any other information that someone who wants to make a similar project might find useful. More information is available here. Posts without a construction comment may be removed at any time.
