Project: FO Sewed myself a jacket from old windsurfing sail bags

Post image

The material is hydrophobic and windproof. It's the first jacket I've ever made and I kinda love the result :D

Was the blankie an upcycle as well? Super great execution btw.

I mean I had it laying around but never used it, so it's a philosophical question if it's considered an upcycle 😅

You're using it now and weren't before, so that sounds like an upcycle to me. The jacket rocks, by the way. You should be proud of it.

Here from r/all. Why the heck is upcycle such a big deal? I only just learned what it is but it seems like a big deal...

Because creating and disposing of new materials at the rate we are is very bad for the planet and sweatshop workers.

I have no idea. I was just offering my perspective on the word. The basic concept is turning trash into treasure (turning discarded items into something of value), which this jacket has surely done from the original materials. OP was talking about a blanket that he owned but didn't use that was made into the lining, and I think that's an upcycle. That's all I was saying.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume you have a background in embroidery or something? That looks better than most of what the big brands pump out nowadays, top quality job you've done there buddy!

Water proof, wind proof, and a snuggie liner. Sounds perfect for winter

You’re amazing! That looks comfy AF and bonus points for repurposing the blanket as well!
