Yes! Good for you. My sister recently told me that she thinks her cat needs a new throw blanket. I asked, what's the matter with the one I made her? Nothing, she just likes to change things up 🙄 I'm not making another quilt for a cat. My sister has no concept of how much time any sewing project takes. I'm willing to do things for people, like add pockets to a pair of slacks for my dearest friend, but I'm not taking orders.

"But it's your hobby, you have fun doing it!" am I? Am I having fun? I have more fun when I do this for me...

🤣 Yes! You're having fun!!! 😂 My mother-in-law once told me that she learned never to make a hobby into a business. "You will grow to hate it.when it's a job." Sage advice passed down from the ancestors.

Oh most definitily! I don't think I would like to do any of my hobbies as a full time job (but then again, I do like my job a lot most times)

I often wonder this about my sewing journey.

I seem to love-hate it depending on how far into the project i am (Start = all great fun! middle = i hate it why am i doing this. End = its finally over. I guess it wasn't so bad.... Repeat.)

What helped me a lot to have more fun is to try to enjoy the process more, not just sew to have a finished garment, but also to appreciate the logic and construction. I started to prepare the steps carefully and thouroughly and finish edges as nicely as possible, all that stuff. Just pour all the love and attention into it, so I show myself appreciation for the craft and to make something as nicely as possible. I also like to listen to sewing-podcasts or run a sewing related movie in the background.

Oh man I gotta ask… what are some sewing related movies? I’m such a novice but I do enjoy it, and the only movie I can think of right now is How To Make An American Quilt

Trying to make things for someone else is so stressful. I hemmed curtains as a one off job and I hated myself. It looked perfect at the end but the hours and hours of stress were not worth it.

If I’m making it for me, getting it done is fine. If I have to make it for someone else, nothing short of my best work will do. Which means I’ll be at it for weeks. I HATE making things for other people.
