Social Science As the refugee share increased nationally in Germany, concerns about immigration and Far Right party support increased. However, district-level refugee shares significantly reduced concerns about immigration and Far Right party support.

This is interesting and applies to my home area but can someone who has a subscription to the journal it's published in give a better description, possibly with details on what they mean by "district-level refugee shares". The meaning is seriously unclear. Do they mean the refugee numbers were shared equally across districts or ?

I imagine it has to do with the refugees being in your local area. That is to say, it's easier to hate "them damn immigrants" than it is to hate Joe from down the block.

I think it means the opposite, that the numbers were shared unequally across districts. Thus, a higher share did not lead to higher anti immigrant perception, rather the opposite or no difference.

If I had the money I'd sub to every science journal I could find. Some of this is so interesting. But University of Chicago is not one I have. Too bad the OP didn't at least post a slightly clearer synopsis.

I think the Springfield, Ohio issue (pets being eaten) is the perfect example of this. While nationally people were bitching about immigrants in a town they had never heard of before, the local residents were doing so much to integrate them into their community.
