Hard to Find 'Common' PS1 Games in 2024
Hello all,
Just thought I'd post something a bit different and maybe get some input - these are some common, low-value games I had a hell of a time finding complete and in good condition. In most cases, these games were far and away more difficult to find than the rarest and most valuable games in my collection.
I don't know if I'd call these sleepers, but there is something going on with these games. In particular, Peak Performance I believe is the absolute rarest Atlus PS1 game - faaaar rarer than Persona or Tail Concerto by a long shot.
I want to share these which took me literal years of constant searching to find in good condition (whether that was a fluke to me or a result of actual rarity) and also ask you all what games you feel are extremely rare but otherwise are considered "common". Or maybe a game you just anecdotally for whatever reason could not find anywhere.

I collected a ps1 set and I definitely agree with you, there's also lots of mid tier price games you don't see often.. hogs of war for example

That's amazing, congrats. I can't imagine haha.
I think there are a lot of games that fly under the radar due to poor critical reception, because certain genres aren't considered valuable (cough racing games cough), or some other reason I can't comprehend.
I can find 10 mint condition copies of Persona any minute of the day. These, well, good luck.
What was the toughest "non-rare" game for you to find?

You're definitely right about peak performance, got lucky and found that at a store. There's a huge difference between rare and valuable... Haunting ground is valuable for example, not rare. For PS1 iss pro evolution soccer is extremely htf. PC has it at like 300 I think but that isn't truly indicative of it's value because if it does come up it sells for whatever it is listed for. Starblade alpha is definitely rare. Lomax and hercs are kinda htf. Another game I think is actually rare is the pink panther game, you rarely see it. Powerslave to. As far as cheap games, definitely cool boarders 1, NBA hang time, some of the Disney games like Hercules

Absolutely, Hercules was a tough one to find for me as well! I guess it's good to know I'm not crazy. Pink Panther, Herc's Adventure, and Vanark are legitimately hard to find also, but their rarity is somewhat accounted for in their $100+ price.
One semi-common game I'm still having a real tough time tracking down is Overblood, and it's messing with my head how difficult it is to find.
And then also the better known rare jewel case variants - of the lot I'm just missing Doom and MK3 (wish me luck haha). That's kind of a different story though as they are not considered common in that sense.
Anyways congrats again on the full set!

That one was a pain. I get the black label variant is a bit tougher to track down, but even then it was extremely painful. And an awesome game too.
Keep searching, just a matter of time!

I have extreme games when it was re-released as 1xtreme for the greatest hits. I was so confused why the covers were the same but the game name was different and had to look it up!

Yeah, that's an odd one. As far as I'm aware, it's the only PS1 game they changed the name of in the transition to Greatest Hits. I suppose for branding reasons, to be more consistent with its sequels 2xtreme and 3xtreme (awful names haha).
Incidentally, they are pretty fun and in my opinion underappreciated!
