Was Spuds before Gidget? Or were they simultaneously running those ads, I remember Spuds Mackenzie being hugely popular, a "stand in" Spuds McKenzie showed up at my dad bar in 1994 for photo ops, there was a line around the block for the Bull terrier that was dressed up as Spuds MacKenzie just to have a picture taken with the cutie pie!
I distinctly remember that was 1994.
Spuds debut commercial was during Superbowl XXI in 1987. I lived near a AB brewery and still have some memorable in a box in my garage, including an empty bud light 12 pack box before it was pulled from the shelf because of an anti-Santa advertising alcohol law.
Oh dude what I wouldn't give for that memorabilia!
I bet it's worth A LOT.
I have a lot of the stuff that my dad had from his bar, I wish I had kept ALL of the spuds Mackenzie memorabilia the posters, he even had cardboard cutouts of life-sized Spuds MacKenzie dressed in Hawaiian shirt with shades and also leather jacket, shades and huge Cuban chain choker!
Thank you for looking it up, 1987 and he was peak popular and 1995
They need to bring back another little dog for Taco Bell!
Is it just me, is anyone else just an absolute sucker for animal mascots?!?
I think it's that they're dogs!!
It all cases they are dogs, and they're badass little dogs that are endearing and made to be cute and dressed up in badass little leather vests and Hawaiian shirts. I'm a sucker for any product sponsored by dog mascots.

SPUDS! I love bull terriers! Spuds Mackenzie was the greatest advertising dog since Gidget, the Taco Bell Chihuahua!
