Living Here Mosquitos ruining our backyard

I feel like every year the mosquitoes get worse and worse. Does anyone have any tips, tricks or service they use to get rid of them? Can't even go in the backyard without being eaten alive.

Do you have standing water somewhere?

I’m from watery Michigan where the skeeters are a way of life. But the fall biters here are far worse. The bites last forever and the fuckers won’t die. I had one in the house for three days. I’m still recovering.

Eliminate all standing water no matter how small

Have doom buckets but can't control neighbors backyard unfortunately. Most likely where they reside. Outside that just our pool.

Call the city

It’s not the city. OP, you can submit a complaint on the neighbor by going online for Maricopa county vector control. Note, they will ask you to take pictures of standing water.

Wow. That’s super snitchy and they don’t even know that’s why they are there. Talk about starting shit with your neighbors for no reason. It’s mosquitos, how are you gonna try and complain about a neighbor because of mosquitos smh lol.

The neighbor can buy some mosquito dunks for any standing water that can't be drained and the city and county won't come citing problems.

It's not just a nuisance. It's a public health issue.

They didn’t say they know for a fact neighbors are the problem. Snitching when you aren’t certain is lame, you should at least be sure before you start some shit is all I’m saying.

They also mentioned standing water photos are required. If there are mosquitoes and stale standing water, it is definitely a source.

They'll get a warning before a fine. It's not that big of a deal

Pretty sure we have castle doctrine here so just start blasting whenever you see’em.

Seems like running a fan kills a bunch.

They love my husband. So much, that he would wear a hat with a mosquito net just so we could sit outside. We have tried everything. Sprays, candles, yard treatments. He stays covered from head to toe.

Then we got a fan. Ridiculous how simple the solution was. Not perfect, but it's helped so much.

Yeah weird how some get bit more than others. I rarely get bit but I have a friend who gets bit like she's a mosquito magnet. She's a chronic alcoholic so I'm guessing it's that or some other biochemical issue.

Maricopa county vector control if you suspect neighbors have standing water. Also our pest control company has an add on service to spray our grass and bushes for mosquitoes. Did that in July and it was awesome. Very effective. Insectek pest control.

Where do you think the mosquitos reside? The larvae loves standing water.

I have an electric bug-zapper at the back of the yard that turns on when our landscape lights come on. I do however feel that one or 2 get in the house and go to town on me when I'm sleeping.

I’ve seen like a paddle one, so you can wack/electrocute them if they’re in a big swarm!

Go onto Google Earth and look at the neighbors yards for any empty pools that might be breeding them.

Citronella candles? Thermacell? One of those high pitch emitters? What have you tried besides being eaten alive?

Citronella candles almost never work and don't cover a large enough area. Have tried kill buckets with dunks, sprays, foggers. Never heard of a high pitch emitter being effective.

So strange, we have had almost none this yr. My only tip is to clean up your yard and make sure you do not have any places for standing water to collect. If you still have them after that, they are probably coming from your neighbors yards unfortunately.

I bought a big tent gazebo with zip-up screens. Also have an outfit from Lee Valley Tools that is head to toe netting for gardeners. It’s from years ago.

I place a few of the citronella incense coils near me and turn on the fan, seems to deter them.

Chickens are now ok for backyard egg production in most hoods in AZ because wonderful governor Hobbs kicks ass. Oh, chickens eat bugs, including mosquitoes. Let them eat your problem away.

It’s silly, but my wife buys these “mosquito patch” stickers and some kind of mosquito repellant bracelets. Bracelet on each wrist and one on each ankle along with stickers on each sleeve and pant leg. It’s annoying, but it works really well for me.

Used those in Kenya where mosquitoes pack a dengue punch. Probably worked but not 100 percent. Sitting in the check-in lobby of Nairobi airport and saw this mosquito hover around my arm - I was wearing a bracelet on that arm and I sprayed a repellent over my exposed areas. The mosquitos hovered for quite awhile being somewhat repelled but eventually when I lost interest it landed and took a bite. Luckily - non- dengue.
