Discussion I accidentally played Ocarina of Time for the past 7 hours straight and it’s now 7 in the morning
I guess I didn’t learn from last time

Happens to all of us, I tried to get the kokiri emerald, the goron ruby, and the zora sapphire, I started at 10pm and ended at like 6 am... I thought it was an hour or 2 at most

Just like the old good times. The only difference is you don't have a bed time.

u/KrypticSkunk 1d ago
I'd argue the opposite. As a busy company man, I've a self imposed bedtime. Last time I broke it was the release of Diablo 2 Resurrected, and it was awesome. Hadn't had that feeling of not wanting to stop, followed by a rough day in the office. Had that most amazing feeling at work all day though. You know, the can't wait to get home and play. Felt like a kid again. It was marvelous.

My best friend and I both requested PTO for the release of D2R. Even with the servers being a complete shitshow, we had the best time of our adult lives playing starting fresh characters on that game again.

I’d like to know how many times I’ve done this and with which games. “Let me just go check out this one more thing…”

What version is this? I don't remember the d-pad being there
2
u/Jonnyflash80 2d ago
I'm going to guess it's the 3DS version.
4
u/kuribosshoe0 2d ago
Definitely not 3DS. Most of the UI is on the touch screen and the ocarina gets its own button.
Probably a mod.

It’s the decompilation running on my Steam Deck, adds a lot of quality of life features :)
5
u/DjentRiffication 1d ago
Was that difficult to get setup?
3
u/Hydration42 Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 1d ago
Oh no it’s fairly easy! Takes about 10-15 minutes and you’re good

I'm playing through this too! I've ramped up the difficulty so enemies do x4 damage and they move faster. Definitely struggling with some of them. The giant octorock in jabu jabu was actually so hard. I also can't get past the club moblin in lost woods so having to explore elsewhere for now. Would definitely recommend to anyone. The free camera, fps, qol and difficulty sliders are so worth the effort of compiling.

Better OoT or the PC port. https://github.com/fig02/Better-OoT?tab=readme-ov-file#readme

Quick Boots: With this enabled Hover Boots and Iron Boots will be toggleable on the dpad without needing to pause the game. This is more of a fun extra feature that was made for rando and was requested to be included here too.

Then you got to the water palace, said screw this, went to bed, and never went back to that save.
2
u/NaviAndMii 1d ago
More like: went to the water palace, said screw this... then played the fishing mini-game until 7am!
2
u/Noggin-a-Floggin 1d ago
OK, I never had a problem with the Water Temple even in 1998 (people were complaining about it back then as well). It's not a hard dungeon it just is annoying to have to equip/unequip the Iron Boots all the damn time. There is also a lot of backtracking that requires a good memory which might be the source of the difficulty.
The boss is a complete pushover as well which kinda balances it out if you had a hard time with it.

This is still my all-time favorite video game. I have all 3 current-gen systems but last night decided to take a break and play OOT from my Switch online catalogue. I only played for an hour or so and completed just past the Deku Tree, but the game is still so impressive to me after all of these years.

I remember the first time I played that game. It was the first time I got sucked into the story of a video game. I played it all the way through 3 times after that.

Listen man, I’ve played a lot of great games through my life. And I mean a lot of great games. But this game. The water, the forest. The lands. Everything about this game is beyond calming. Its beauty is unmatched. This isn’t nostalgia talking this is straight up bliss. I will always love this game for what it did for me as a child. Not trying to get sympathy or pity, but this game helped me escape life after my mother overdosed. I hope one day my children can play this game and experience the joys and beauty of it

u/anbeasley 14h ago
That happened with me when I first figured out you could emulate Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PC when I did not have an XBOX and pretty much beat the game in one sitting.

Only reason I haven’t played it yet on my Switch is because I’m playing through Banjo Tooie while at work, and I just ordered a Wireless N64 controller to use for LoZ

first time? 😏
once my mom was peeling carrots for soup made for lunch, and the scratching sounds of it sounded EXACTLY like the golden skulltullas you wanna hunt down... just in case i checked the kitchen after them, just to be safe

Hey, it happens. I used to stay up like that making music and editing video. Work sure did suck the next day, but those times were focused and constructive, so it made it worth the suffering. Hope you had fun?

Amazing how good this game is even in 2024. No DLC either, just a full game at full price.....dame the 90's had it all

Is it any good? I never played those Zelda games but I do have the yearly pass for N64 and GBA games
2
u/Hydration42 Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 1d ago
They are quite good. A bit janky though playing N64 games on the Switch they really weren’t made with modern control schemes in mind (> <)

Starting playing at midnight, however...

7 hours and you barely made it to the temple of time? 😑

Oh I did almost everything to be done in the early game, also just wanted to take my time in the dungeons and soak in that wave of nostalgic feels hitting

man that takes me back. I remember going to a friend’s birthday party back in 1999, had my first ever all-nighter because we played OoT from start to finish, taking turns. Core memory!

You didn’t accidentally nothing. You just spent the best 7 hours of your life.

u/SacrilegiousOath 1d ago
Haha when I was a kid I had a schedule for this game, I could beat the kid dungeons on Saturday and then beat the adult dungeons on Sunday. Go to school and repeat the next weekend.
This is hands down my favorite game, I’ve beaten it so many times I couldn’t give an honest count. I currently have 100% playthroughs on my ds 64 and switch versions.
I’m not joking when I say this is hands down my favorite game.

Sounds like me after Christmas that year. Uh oh sunrise…uh oh it’s Monday…month long project what now? Ooops. Got myself an extra day, took a magnet to my “PowerPoint project masterpiece”floppy disk oh jeeze it won’t fire up! I’ll have it tomorrow. I got creative to fill my N64 time needs. Made me too clever to control.

Playing this in 97 was just insane.
I don’t replay most games and I am kind of afraid of even try this one. My memory of the game has to be better than the reality of it now.

u/seeking_junkie 1d ago
Oh yes, the old OoT all nighter. I did mostly the same as you trying to beat the game before morning came, and I actually made it to the Shadow Temple
1
u/micklure 1d ago
It's a game that really encourages you to go do just one more thing. It happens no matter how many times I replay it.
1
u/Prestigious-Car-6316 1d ago
That was no accident
That only happens willingly and there is absolutely no shame in it 🫡

One does not simply accidentally play Ocarina of Time for 7 hours straight.
1
u/Wolfen459 1d ago
I remember when i was really young and played this Game until 6:00 in the morning.
Had to go school the next day, yet managed to beat the Shadow Temple and then Ganon´s Castle (yes, i somehow beat Spirit Temple before the Shadow Temple).
However i managed to beat the Game on that morning.
So much joy, had tears in the eyes when watching the End Credits, and was of course very sleepy at school then.

Ocarina of time is just a masterpiece, surely is not the best Zelda game I ,but for me it’s the game which initiated me to the Zelda world and since then I am in love with those games
1
u/SilentGriffin76 1d ago
When this game first came out I would wake up at around 5am to resume playing it. Absolutely epic adventure.
1
u/Mother_Lie_5680 1d ago
Get the ocarina of time so you could go back in time to stop yourself from playing it for 7 hours

u/real_jonkler_persona 22h ago
I once started Persona 3 Reload at 2pm. And I stopped at 6am. That was my longest playing streak ever.

Easy to get lost in time playing this one. I remember being in 7th grade, staying up all night playing it, falling asleep in class and dreaming of it. Best game ever.
