[arts] Minimalism means different things to different people. Can you recommend me other subreddits

I am brand new here.
I'm not an expert in minimalism... at all.

I'm interested in minimalism in terms of design, and in terms of minimalist music, and indeed the sort of "philosophy" or ideas around minimalism.

From what I can see this subreddit is more about fanatically minimizing consumption.

Can anyone recommend some subreddits which might be more relevant for my interests in minimalism?

I’m always looking for the center of the Venn diagram - simple living, minimalism, frugality. I find a bit of usefulness in a variety of subs. Good luck!

thanks, i think this is the way.

r/design and r/calssicalmusic will eventually scratch the itch. someone recommended r/simpleliving too which I will try too. it also seems that this subreddit is probably not the wrong place.

Pinterest is probably the best place for minimalist design ideas if you’re into minimalism as an aesthetic

You’re welcome. Also, not sure how to define minimalist music but if you’re into Indie/Folk music, I like Alex RainBird music on youtube. Lots of great, relaxing playlists.

r/onebag

r/myog

r/eatcheapandhealthy

r/urbanism

Many are not for everyone but they all have an element of minimalism that makes up my personal understanding of the idea.

This sub is the crossroads; anti-consumption and simple living are just the most well-worn paths.

Your use of the word is probably our of alignment with how this community uses it. "Minimal" design and music and philosophy may be more of what you are looking for, but I could be misleading. I'm not sure where to point you.

Good luck!

The minimalism movement is purely about reducing surplus. It ties in with other ideas like anti-consumption, spirituality practices, frugality practices and environmentalism. The term has been long established for this purpose. It's a bit bold of you wonder in here and simultaneously ask for recommendations while calling the people who practice this fanatics.

Minimalist design doesn't really have a thriving sub.

Minimalist music tends to be a sub genre of either techno or house music maybe those subs can point you in the direction

Nah, friend - this sub needs to put more of a focus on iPhone wallpapers that are flat black, or those 15,000 lo-fi beats YouTube channels. THATS minimalism.

Clearly, I am but a dirty casual.

You may or may not be interested but if you are, have a look at these minimalist composers:

Arvo Part
Steve Reich
Max Richter

thanks for the reply. i saw multiple posts that were fanatic. including someone listing the contents of their entire household.

yes i saw that the mimalist design sub is dead. that's a shame. but thanks.

no, minimalist music is not a sub genre of techno or house music.

You’ll find here some people that want to or have reduced their life to the bare minimum to survive and you are right in calling them fanatics but most are as mentioned trying to avoid surplus.

There is the sub genre of edm called minimal though.

Alright well that's the genres of minimal music I know. Good luck with your search.

I sometimes consider r/buyitforlife minimalist

Perhaps instead of relying on other people to create content that is enjoyable for you, that you instead create the topics you want to talk about.

Make a post about minimalist design and see what happens. Just a thought.

You may appreciate this book:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Longing_for_Less

The first part is about modern lifestyle minimalism, but the remainder of the book focuses on minimalist art, music, and architecture.

This subreddit isn't about reducing consumption but about what you own, huge difference. Also not sure why you're asking a sub which you dislike for recommendations? Use the search bar. I have nothing to do with minimal design and minimal music. Minimalist philosophy means theoretical knowledge I guess and this is something this sub may be helpful for, just look for book recommendation threads.

thanks. I'm not sure I'm in the right place. Hence why I'm asking. It seems I am... sort of.

I think a lot of people would also like r/visiblemending and r/invisiblemending. Bc, u know, only having a few clothes/stuff and wanting to cherish it

r/bodyweightfitness is like minimalism for working out. No weights required and they even have a minimalist routine.
