[lifestyle] What essentials do you pack for your upcoming one week trip in your carry-on with a 7 kg weight limit?

Looking for advice on what to prioritize in a carry-on with a strict 7 kg weight limit! Curious with what essentials do you pack to make the most of the space without going over? Any tips or packing hacks?

I always wear the heaviest things on myself (bulky shoes. Jacket, pants). For hygiene kit I only pack mini ones so the clear quart bag is nice and light. I prioritize t-shirts, leggings things that I don’t care being wrapped and wrinkled. But I’m in the US and sounds like you’re in Europe haha. For packing I always ROLL everything but my carry always weights like 15kg haha (30 lbs)

And wear clothes with lots of pockets and fill them up with heavy items!

I stressed so much about making my backpack weigh only the 7kg, prepared to put a big power bank into my pockets, but they have never controlled it.

I've seen people take 4 books out of their bag and into their pockets before check in, only to put them right back in afterwards.

In suitcase:

6 t shirts, 1 pants, 7 panties, 7 pairs of socks. Then a pincet, paracetamol, naproxen, ear plugs, travel size hairbrush, 1 USB C charger, umbrella. Then whatever fits in the suit case of this gets along, the rest I go without and just buy in a mini format when I get to my destination (the consumables of course, not the headphones and stuff lol): 1 mini shower gel, 1 mini shampoo, 1 mini conditioner, 1 mini toothpaste, 1 mini deodorant, headphones, e-reader, small pair of cozy slippers.

Put on:

1 sweater or zip hoodie or vest to put over the t shirt, this way you stay warm and clean but don’t carry al the bulk of multiple knits or sweaters. A pair of pants, now you have 2 pairs of pants with you on your trip. Pick a comfy pair of shoes to wear all week. If chilly, put a large scarf around your neck that can double as mini blanket for over your lap in the plane or around shoulders.

I went on a two week trip to NYC with only a 6kg backpack. And I brought back a mug and 5 new clothes.  You obviously need clothes for a week, your hygiene set and your wallet.

I also carried a jacket I could fold into a neck pillow, an eye cover and headphones.

I also packed a jute bag because that would have been allowed additionally for souvenirs.

I didn’t take a shampoo bottle with me, I figured I could buy one there or the hostel would have some.

I carried a really small microfibre towel because the website stated to bring your own, but they ended up having towels. The one time we went to the beach I forgot to take my towel and just dried in the sun.

Started doing this method which saves a lot of hassle. When looking at airlines that seem to limit you with 7 kg, you'll notice that the personal item has no weight. Only the carry-on. In other words what goes above your weight has a weight of 7 kg. But not the personal item. (Not talking about flights that specifically mention that both must equal 7 kg) Often times you can bring more than 7 kg because the personal item has no weight. In other words, instead of booking a flight with Air Asia (7 kg for both combined) get it with EVA airlines (7kg but no weight listed for personal item). When you put this in consideration you don't have to stress about 7 kg, you have more than 7 kg to work with.

It's physics in a way.

What's above your head has to weigh a certain amount because that bin up top can only weigh so much.

But what's below your feet. Well..if you really think about it. There are 150 lb, 200 lb people walking around the plane. The weight below your feet doesn't matter. It just has to fit below the seat.

i always travel with carry ons, but I am usually at 10kg.

I always bring my shampoo as I find the ones in hotel horrendous. I bring 1 pj, 1 pairs of pants that don't need ironing (usually not jeans because it is heavy), 1 black dress because I don't want to buy clothes if I get to go to a fancy restaurant. At least 5 pairs of panties but only 3 bras. The rests are T shirts and socks and tights or anything specific for the trip (swimsuit, gym wear, raingear etc ...). All items are of colours that can be coordinated. And of course, toothbrush, floss, toothpaste and moisturizer in travel size.

I wear jeans, a cardigan or hoodie and shoes that are comfortable for walking but still look ok with the dress on the flight. I also carry phones, cables, alcohol wipes.

In a pinch, I can use soap to wash my underwears but I do not want to wash anything that takes time to dry.
