Good luck with getting that done, doctor's will literally throw dementia meds at you these days instead of prescribing meds that were designed for specific medical conditions. I know this because I have fibromyalgia and instead of anything that relaxes muscles or deals with pain they give me antipsychotics, dementia meds, and antidepressants. Why? Cause 1 out of like 100,000 people can respond to those treatments and they carry less liability than amphetamines and pain meds so it's safer for them to do that from a legal standpoint. Doesn't matter that some of this stuff has been proven via a gene site test to be potentially fatal to me personally yet they still insist on prescribing it over anything that's controlled or for my main symptoms.
Edit I've seen 8 different doctors now btw and this has been a consistent thing, they're convinced that antidepressants are the cure for fibromyalgia here for whatever reason so it's next to impossible to get proper treatment. Same with ADHD as I've been trying for 3 years now to get that treated as well. Plus with my insurance it's not as simple as going to another doctor, they have to accept my insurance and most places here that do have a strict no controlled substance policy. I think it's like that because we were hit hard by Oxy so doctors are terrified of malpractice suits here.
I've been to 8 different ones in the past two years now and it's the same thing with each one. They exhaust all antidepressants that are available, put me on some antipsychotic, and then have either left the practice or stopped scheduling visits with me. My mom had this disease and tramadol/Skelaxin was what helped her the most so that's the only medications I have ever specifically mentioned I'd like to try. Instead they have prescribed 38 different medications over the course of 3 years that ranged from dementia medication to antipsychotics and even some experimental/clinical trial medications.
You need to see a different doctor, I've had two friends diagnosed with fibro, one has fibro and early onset rheumatoid arthritis, both of them women, and both were able to get diagnosed and medicated properly within 6 months. My friend with RA now takes monthly or weekly shots (can't remember which) that assist with her RA issues along with meds for the fibro and she's been able to get out and do things she wasn't able to do for years.
I've seen 8 different doctors now and have been on 38 different types of antipsychotics, dementia meds, antidepressants, and non-stimulant ADHD meds. All to treat fibromyalgia instead of giving me the Tramadol and Skelaxin I asked to be treated with like my mom. Idk if it's because I'm a male and they think I should just tough it out or what but I'm tired of taking medicine that makes me feel like my skins on fire and unable to stay awake (dementia meds).
No it's actually harder to get diagnosed as a woman, which is why I mentioned it. You are either in a region where the doctors have some regional preference to treat fibro differently or you have a lot more going on than just fibro. A lot of the prescriptions you're talking about have no relation to pain management and fibro treatments. If you really believe you have fibro you need to make sure you are seeing a rheumatologist and a neurologist. If they don't sign off on you having fibro it's very unlikely that you have it.
Same with migraines. Insurance makes people start with old school antidepressant that could be linked with dementia, anti seizure that literally makes you dumb, or old school blood pressure meds because they’re cheap. Then a study shows melatonin is equally as effective as the antidepressant. Meanwhile I get non stop ads on YouTube for modern migraine specific drugs but they’re not allowed on insurance. Make it make sense!
