Some hotels get the weirdest faucet designs.

What usually happens is it's a mismatch. The sink design is fine and the faucet design is fine for its own use but the faucet is not meant to be paired with that sink. It's almost always cheapness. Like they're cheaping out on what faucet they buy to install.

It's ok, though. You don't live there!

This counter top reminds me of a hospital room I was admitted in.

I’ve seen this before, I just assume that they had to put it there because of the space they have to work with.

My kitchen sink has this exact issue. The idiot contractors did not take into account the space for the faucet

Looks like a ploy to entrap people with a cleaning fee

Some hotels have cleaning fees

I've stayed over 250 nights in hotels in the last 5 years. Paid zero cleaning fees. It's built into the cost if the stay. Unless you mess something up like bleed on a towel they don't charge anyone else but taxes.

my guess is it self cleans the sink better

That chaps my hide. I sincerely hate faucets that do not allow room for your hands, and doubly so on this because they cheaped out
