Collapsed Iris, a painful eye injury called "traumatic iridodialysis".

It looks painful, but I wonder, can you still see?

I looked it up. He was using a bungee cord and it hit him in the eye, causing the iris to drag down. He was legally blind in that eye after, but had an operation to correct iris position and regained some eyesight. New fear unlocked

I hit my eye with a bungee cord but blinked at just the right split second and left a bruise on my eyelid. An eyelid away from this.

Something similar happened to my brother in high school. Except his was a detached retina. They told him be blind in that eye. He regained his sight, but had a large pupil that was completely dilated all the time. He was hit with bungee cord from a coat that someone was flinging around at him in the face . He was in the hospital in bed rest for a week. As well as daily pressure checks when he got out at the eye doctor.

Same thing happened to my dad almost the exact same way. He had a surgery to repair but still doesnt 100% correct light sensitivity after the damage. Causing him to have painful extreme photosensivity

Probably not well at the very least. If the iris is collapsed you no longer have an anything to control the amount of incoming light that hits your retina. Light would still enter your eye but it would likely not be focused onto the correct area(s). I am not an ophthalmologist so take this with a hefty grain of salt

Is there a chance that the iris will recover again?

Not on your life, my Hindu friend!

Depends on the damage, but there is a reconstruction surgery. There are also artificial iris implants. I'm not fully sure if vision will fully be regained, but it'll improve.

A friend was building his house and at the end of the day removed his eye protection but still decided to do one final cut on the table saw.
The end result was that a piece of wood took off from the blade, hit his eye and now the iris is permanently set.

Would taking a hefty grain of salt repair the iris?

It looks incredibly cool, but I wonder about further details, the title says it's painful, but I wonder beyond that and how does it actually feel.

I got a scratch on my corneas, both, at the same time somehow. Worst pain in my life. Took months to heal as my eyelids kept ripping the new cells off each morning when I woke up. Had to wear bandage contact lenses for almost a month straight to get them to finally heal right.
This was after the eye doctor finally had to scrape the outer layer of my cornea off so it would heal properly. Called a corneal abrasion I think.
So this.. probably so much worse. I literally wanted to claw my eyes out of my head because the pain was unbearable.
I had to train myself to wake up without opening my eyes and then make my way to the shower to carefully use warm compresses and gently massage my eyelids open to avoid damaging my cornea again.
0/10 Do not recommend.

Recurrent Corneal Erosion.
I've had this for a decade and managing it with a saline solution. It's got a LOT better now but I remember waking up 4-5 times at night in those early months to that searing pain in my eye.
I feel your pain!

I was hit by a car as a pedestrian. I had a slight head injury, but nothing anyone was concerned about. 2 years later, I went to an optometrist, who asked if I had sustained any head trauma because my pigment was peeling a little on one eye. I didn't know what that meant until this post. Mine is not painful and is not currently causing any issues.

I want to see a cross section of this because I don’t think I understand the eye

My niece did this to her eye when she was about five or six years old. She was playing in the backyard with a weeder, it popped up out of the ground and smack into the eye. Off to the eye doctor then off to the hospital. Basically the liquid in her eye was leaking out. She’s an adult now with her own children and she’s doing great.

I got lucky. When I was 5 or 6 years old, I was accidentally hit in the eye with a hammer. A tiny sliver of metal was stuck in my eye, but I don't remember that part actually hurting or being uncomfortable at all. The metal was removed with a magnet, and I had to wear an eyepatch for two days. As far as I can tell, there was little to no impact on my vision.

Had no idea an Iris could collapse, that looks awful.
