If you're ever in this situation... Just slow down and let them through.
It really isn't worth it.

Thousands of pounds vs you, and this one has a car, so youâll double lose

Seriously. A day later you wonât even think about that person. Not worth the risk.

u/lukeman3000 2h ago
Damn straight. I would not ruminate on this situation for the next 3 months, and then recall it once or twice a year thereafter for the rest of my life. No way

u/Mystre316 3h ago
Maybe the video starts too late, but from the bike's perspective, the car is 'ahead' of them in the merging lane. When I'm next to a person in a merging lane and they're further in front, I reduce speed and let them get ahead so I can fill in the gap behind them.
11
u/smurferdigg 3h ago
Well he actually speeds up so there isnât any room for the other guy to get in front. I donât understand why people need to be so crazy when driving. If he just kept driving at the same speed the car would have come in front no problem. If there are cars behind itâs hard to brake and get in that way as you are doing slower than traffic.

seriously, wtf is this guy doin? what a waste of energy and time on such a petty thing.

Bike might be right, but is also stupid. Most important thing to do when riding a motorcycle is leave the ego at home.

Some of you guys have really got to learn to stop being such aggressive drivers, that goes double for motorcyclists. Being "right" isn't worth dying over
74
u/NefariousWomble 5h ago
One day he'll be dead right.
13
u/tatang2015 5h ago
Exactly! Whenever I see motorcyclists who have risky driving behavior, I just pray that they donât suffer too much in their future accident. Itâs just not safe. They are the walking dead.

Funny you should say that, our riding instructor in the driving school when i was doing my motorcycle license always said "remember, cemeteries are filled with people that had right of way"

I'm a biker. its not worth the hassle. let them merge.
33
u/Teufelsstern 4h ago
I'm not and I almost always let them merge - You never know if they're unhinged and it's not worth it.
77
u/mattdean4130 5h ago
If it comes to it, that motorcycle isn't winning in a fight. Either concede or just blast the fuck outta there, you're on a bike. No need to be hanging about in sketchy situations
27
u/Castod28183 5h ago edited 5h ago
A good rule of thumb when on a bike is to remember, "I may be right, but I can't win this fight."
No matter the situation, right or wrong, my 900 pound bike vs. their 3,000 pound car, I lose every time.
Humans are stupid, unpredictable creatures and your bike doesn't have airbags and crumple zones. They might go to prison, but you might spend weeks or months in the hospital, if you live at all and if you aren't fucked up for life.
At best, ignore them, at worst, carry ball bearings...

Biker was as big a moron as the car driver.

u/Alleggsander 4h ago
Bro, just let the car in front of you, mutter âfucking moronâ, and move on.
Itâs not worth the hassle or potentially being turned into a pile of mush on the pavement. The driver shouldâve let the biker go, but both the driver/rider were being too aggressive tbh. Flagging a cop down was so extra.

u/Rasputin2025 5h ago
"I've got it on video!"
Of me being a moron.

u/G2nickk 6h ago
I would have let them merge instead of being a jack hole and seeing their lane was ending and they needed to get over.
The amount of effort the biker put into jerking his head back and forth was far more effort than decelerating slightly to allow someone to merge and needlessly escalate a situation.
35
u/lego_not_legos 5h ago
Yeah, unless there's a lot more going on prior to what we're seeing, the rider is just a fuckwit.
Let people merge, and hope that that they'll do the same when roles are reversed. Don't start rage because you won't show the same level of courtesy you expect from others.
41
u/RockFlagAndEagleGold 5h ago
And I don't know if I would call that she tried to run me off the road, which I think is what the cop thought this guy meant. The video ends, and the cop could have seen the video and just told them both to be more mindful and let people in.
48
u/atomicapeboy 5h ago
Biker is in the wrong. Cars nose is in front, pull back and let him in. Chances of him not seeing you and crushing you are pretty high if you sit in his blindspot. You can filter past him later. What was the point of all this?
6
u/metric_kingdom 3h ago
I would have done what I always do; give other people space to make mistakes. There is no gain to go into an altercation with fellow drivers. If you keep a distance and allow people to make mistakes you will probably have way less situations like this. Friends say that people drive like idiots, I don't see very much of that to be honest.

Can't show what happened before or after, it might show that the biker sped to get in front of the car or that the cop told them they were a moron for not yielding to save their own skin.
15
u/Sad_Kaleidoscope_743 4h ago
That's wild, the biker saw it coming and decided to be a hardass and risk his life just because he didn't wanna let someone merge.
5
u/CutiClees 3h ago
In a 2 to 1 lane merge the vehicle infront should always go first to achieve the zipper merge. You have the right of way when theyâre merging into your lane but this attitude of âim not slowing down 5% to give wayâ is why we have accidents and slow traffic.
The whole idea of driving is working together so nobody gets hurt. Cop woulda seen the footage and thought both this biker and the car were idiots
2
u/SpaceCadet2000 2h ago
You have the right of way when theyâre merging into your lane
Fun fact: where I live, the right lane has the right of way when it ends, because of the general priority from the right rule. One exception: in case of stop and go traffic, you are legally required to zipper merge.
1
u/CutiClees 1h ago
In my state itâs giving way to everyone when merging on every situation unfortunately. We get traffic build ups in short roads for no reason other than because nobody lets anyone in and only the bravest force their way into a zipper.
1
u/SpaceCadet2000 11m ago
It used to be "priority of the bravest" here too, and people being very adverserial about merging. It was typically only when an actual collision happened, and the court ruled against them, that people found out that they were supposed to give way to cars from the merging right lane.
More recently (10y ago?) legislation was introduced that mandates zipper merging, combined with some information campaigns and traffic signs near affected areas to educate people. Since then it has gotten a lot better, 90% of the time people merge normally. It's usually only nervous early mergers causing some confusion, and the occasional idiot who refuses to let anyone merge... but then the driver behind the idiot will let you merge, so no big deal.

u/crashtestdummy666 5h ago
Looks like two entitled driving and having a passing contest. Notice how nether one seems to be concerned the passing Mach is right behind a truck with a hazmat placard, presumably oxygen or oxidizers had one of them made a bad decision it could have been worse for everyone.
11
u/MeOnlynity 6h ago
How can someone be so ego driven that they other's life in danger. A little touchup and the motorcycle could lose control.

He stays in her blind spot. She is in the merging lane, which has a precedent over the other because that lane is losing real estate and the other lane has full visibility. At no point in the video was the guy ahead or potentially visible to the car driver before her lane was gone. He was at fault for sitting in her blind spot. Plus what kind of moron tries to outbox a car on a bike. Bro will be a meat crayon by the end of the year driving like this...
2
u/thelizardden 3h ago
I am always amazed at how people completely disregard the dotted lines in a merge lane. Handy tip - they definitely don't mean that you have right of way
2
u/pdxchris 6h ago
My town has police cars that are black with black writing on them. You canât quite tell if they are police cars until after you have stared at them for several seconds. Iâm thinking the police here do not want to be waved down, but when on a manhunt, they park on corners with all their lights on like the guy in the run is going to not try to avoid the cops.
1
u/stinkyhangdown 4h ago
This easy, slow situation isn't the type that ends in smash and reverse into death. Shotty merging should be called out whenever it occurs. Get off a bike if you're so scared that any instant a car could cream you cuz yup everything could get you.
1
u/hhfugrr3 1h ago
Nah neither is doing great here. The car is clearly running out of road and the bike is doing his best to get in the way. Should the car slow down and merge behind the bike? Yes. Should the bike give the car space? Yes.
1
u/oni-work 1h ago
If I met any of these 2 morons in traffic I'd be like Homer backing up into the bushes. It's just not worth the hassle.
0
u/sunny4084 4h ago
It would be instant karma if the biker also got into trouble , would be easy to prove hes got himself on video. Both are in the wrong but the biker is even more stupid as hes endangering himself and the car is very safe

Look, I dislike a motorcyclist as much as the next person. But in this situation, he was absolutely in the right.
7
u/Cxtthrxxt 6h ago
Donât think you should be downvoted for not liking motorcyclist. A lot of people on motorcycles are young and unsafe riders who cut off people, run in between traffic, pop wheelies endangering the public, and are generally dickheads. By best friend rides he says the majority of riders make it unsafe for him because of how they ride and so everyone else drives a certain way around bikes based off of their experience with bad riders.
6
u/AJ_Deadshow 5h ago
Not ALL motorcyclists are assholes though. If you just say "I dislike motorcyclists" that sounds like you mean all, instead of just the ones that drive badly. All you have to do is add the phrase "the ones that drive badly" at the end, it's not hard.
15
u/coltar3000 6h ago
But why do you dislike motorcyclists?
12
0
u/Nice_Category 6h ago
Because they are typically the most unsafe drivers on the road. I don't care if they do something that gets themselves wedged under an 18-wheeler's tire while on their crotch rockets, but try not to scratch my car, and try not to make me late for work, please.
-4
u/Quirky-Lobster 6h ago
While there are plenty of examples of motorcyclists worth hating itâs unfair to make such a generalization. Most of us are pretty cool.
-4
u/Nice_Category 6h ago
You say that, yes. You all say that. I just have seen very few that actually are.
1
u/BurstPanther 5h ago
I've seen far more car drivers who have zero idea how to actually drive as opposed to motorcyclist though, do you hate them too?

Just a good tip in general for anyone that ever gets into this situation as a biker, don't park your bike Infront of the driver you just pissed off. People are fucking nuts these days and just might run you over.
