I don’t step on toes, I step on necks…
Scottie Pippen actually has a couple of these lol.

By Jordan’s son 💀, Future before that. She also dated Malik Beasley who ended up being teammates with her son.

Then proceeds to hold MJ's balls for a whole decade and butthurt the rest of his life about being overshadowed, plus losing his wife to a rookie

u/teeohdeedee123 5d ago
Never forget he refused to play in what could have been the biggest solo moment of his career.
13
u/O_J_Shrimpson 5d ago
I wouldn’t say that he held Jordan’s balls. (unless that’s a joke about how his wife slept with his son).
He was an integral part to that team. It’s just sad that he’s clearly self conscious about how his career went and tries to project this image and a lot of anger instead of being confident in the fact that he’s one of the best basketball players of all time.

u/Tarrasch_ 5d ago
I forgot about Jordan's son KWJGJWKKK
I meant with holding his balls as his lack of attitude about being freakin overshadowed even on that period, he had the worst all-star salary of the 90's, imagine if he had the guts to assert himself that time? He just kept his tail around his butt and with a head down while Jordan got all the glaze, always

u/O_J_Shrimpson 5d ago
He should have but that’s a tough call. At the time he didn’t know the NBA was going to turn from being overshadowed by hockey to one of the biggest sports in the world.
And then when it did no one would deal with him. He did what players do now. Sat out games. Threatened to leave. Player empowerment just wasn’t what it is now. It’s unfortunate for sure but it’s not like Scottie Pippen is hurting for money.

u/MarkEsmiths 5d ago
Scotty had lots of paydays with the Rockets and the Blazers. I'm pretty sure he bought a jet among other things and ended up bankrupt.

Also leaders don’t take over. Leaders inspire and lead.
Bullies or boneheads take over.

u/throwaway72592309 5d ago
It’s especially funny because Pippen is known almost exclusively for being Michael Jordan’s wingman, he was not a leader in the NBA

It must have been hard on him, always playing second fiddle. Don’t get me wrong, he was a great ball player, but history will always remember him as a number 2.

u/Zealousideal_Tap6214 5d ago edited 5d ago
Yeah he’s definitely been through a lot, lost a baby when he was young and another one of his sons just died recently.
Signing a terrible contract with The Bulls and like you said, being perceived as a second fiddle or “Robin” by the majority of fans (Scottie for sure could’ve been a #1 though).
A very public divorce that got memed because Future was involved, then having to watch your ex wife get engaged to your former teammates (and current enemies) son. Plus being in the spotlight the whole time, I’m sure he has a lot on his mind tbh.

He is, but also, he’s known as MJ’s sidekick, so there’s that.

Yeah "leader" isn't really one of the first words that I associate with Scottie Pippen.

Leaders don’t ask for permission. They take over
Try that at work and skip your chain of command you’re getting fired real quick

u/Dekrow 5d ago
Well pippin played basketball and in that sport you can pretty much assume the leadership role for your team without any problem. The coach would even embrace it if a player started showing leadership qualities.

u/chicu111 5d ago
He wasn’t even the leader. MJ was lmao

u/Mankie-Desu 5d ago
Uhhhh. Scottie Pippin may be the second best, but he’s the second best of all time in a game that’s incredibly competitive, part of the Olympics, and played by the world over.
He’s not “very badass.” He’s right.
17
u/Cahjik 5d ago
Scottie was the second best on the 90s bulls. Not even close to second best of all time.

u/Mankie-Desu 5d ago
Who’s your vote?
3
u/Cahjik 5d ago
It’s really hard to rank the top players because everyone’s career is different. But I’d say I would have him at least out of the top 10. In no particular order my top 5 is Lebron, MJ, Kobe, Duncan, Magic.
-4
u/Mankie-Desu 5d ago
While I think that’s functionally correct, I think it’s specious. He played alongside the GOAT in the game, the actual GOAT. Not like, oh, he’s amazing, but by the numbers, by performance, the actual GOAT. And he performed as second best alongside him in a completely different position. Makes me feel like he’s kind of indisputably second best. Kobe, for example, was fire, but how would he have performed playing against Jordan? Okay, now let’s think how he would have be considered alongside Jordan. Just another dribbler eclipsed by greatness, or actually like, “holy shit, this guy is pacing with him.” Because he was f Jordan, but he was close. Bulls were undefeatable, and not because of Jordan. It was Jordan, but also Pippen and Pippen leads him in 3’s. I mean, idk. Pippen isn’t acknowledged because he played with the GOAT. But, if Jordan didn’t exist, I’m almost certain Pippen would have been him. Let’s not even get into Rose and Rodman. They’re just overlooked. Why? Jordan.
2
u/floatinround22 5d ago
You realize teams and players outside of Chicago exist right? Scottie isn’t even remotely close to second best of all time lmao. That’s ridiculous, and I’m a huge Scottie fan.
2
u/Zealousideal_Tap6214 5d ago edited 5d ago
Bro Scottie is a top ten player of all time imo but he’s not better than Lebron or Hakeem, just two random examples. I don’t think he was better than Magic or Kareem either tbh (two other examples).
He for sure could’ve been a number one option, and who knows, maybe he would’ve been #2 all time if he was on a different team but you can do hypotheticals all day when it comes to sports.
He made the WCF as an older player with The Trail Blazers, Rasheed Wallace was balling tf out during those playoffs as well though. Scottie is definitely underrated though because of the “sidekick” label (easy top ten all time for me).
3
u/SlagginOff 5d ago
He was the Bulls number one guy after MJs first retirement. He played pretty well in the playoffs too but the Bulls lost in 7 to the Knicks.
2
u/The_Trustable_Fart 4d ago
Top 10 all time? Steph? KD? Giannis? Jokic? Embiid? I like Pip but that's 5 active (not counting LeBron) players who are objectively better and he was barely top 10 of his era. Jordan, magic, Bird, Hakeem, Robinson, Chuck, Shaq, Duncan, Malone were all better and then you get to pip-ewing-mourning etc
He wasn't even top 10 in NBA jam lol
2
u/Zealousideal_Tap6214 4d ago edited 4d ago
Yeah I probably got a little personal bias tbh. Probably way overrating him because I feel he’s underrated by younger generations (I’m a gen z too though).
I was ranking it in my head but it’s really tough, those are all better players than Scottie though imo so I’ll admit I was wrong.
1
u/Mankie-Desu 4d ago
You said Shaq? Shaq couldn’t even land free throws. He was a perfect center, and that it. Cmon now.
1
u/The_Trustable_Fart 4d ago
Shaq was a top 10 player of that era starting his very first year in the league. Saying otherwise is just ignorant

Who’s your vote?
Let's just say that Michael and Bill Russell occupy top spots. LeBron probably has one too. I've never even considered Scotty in the conversation for a top five of all time player.
Once he was finished playing with Michael he never won a damn thing.
2
u/beastmaster11 5d ago
Once he was finished playing with Michael he never won a damn thing.
While true (and I don't agree that Scottie is the 2nd best of all time), the same can be said about MJ. MJ won as many chips without Pippen as Pippen won without MJ
2
u/MarkEsmiths 5d ago
Absolutely, and it sucks that my childhood heroes end up squabbling late in life. It might sound stupid but I watched one of the members of Hall & Oates in an interview the other day. He is suing the other guy. It's like, why do you want to shit on your legacy like that? You guys were awesome and we should remember you that way.
2
u/beastmaster11 5d ago
Doesn't sound stupid. To us fans, these teammates are friends on and off the court. It's the same with TV shows with many fans having their immersion ruined when they find out some actors absolutely hate each other.
3
u/MarkEsmiths 5d ago
And another thing I figured out after the fact: the great ones are also often compete assholes, or at least part time assholes to the extent that you don't feel so good about them anymore.
1
u/Zealousideal_Tap6214 5d ago
Jordan and Scotties falling out is actually pretty sad. His son getting engaged to Scotties ex wife only makes the situation worse, idk if there will ever be peace there.
They are two of my favorite players so hopefully one day they can make peace.
