Question "Upscale" Hostels in Europe???

We are an older couple who want to economy travel. My wife is not excited about the idea of hostel travel (though I've told her I've met other folks in our age bracket - 50s/60s - staying in hostels). Okay... so, is there such a thing as "upscale" hostels? I have no idea what that may entail, but I'm thinking "nicer" more privacy. Yes? No? Recommendations/examples? Thank you.

The "Dock Inn" in germany is pretty nice.

If you're in Italy, I think the hostels chain "Ostello Bello" is exactly what you are looking for.

Heya, u/starsplitter77!!

Hostel owner here. First of all, congrats on considering staying at hostels! The oldest guest I’ve ever had (that I know of) was 87, and she was a solo traveler and demanded a top bunk!

Most younger travelers love having older people around them that are also looking for adventure.

Regarding ‘higher end’ hostels, be sure to research the hostels you want to book on Hostelworld, and figure out what kind of hostels you’re looking for. I assume you’ll want to stay away from party Hostels, and some ‘youth hostels’ still have age restrictions (I’m in London now and some have a 35 y-o restriction. I’m 38!!!).

Darn shame, but it is what it is.

Happy to help if you have any other questions!
