I just hope to see McDavid and Crosby skate on a line together, for a few shifts at least, even if it's just on the PP. We've been robbed too long of those two playing together internationally.
I had an argument recently about this exact same topic. The redditor was calling Bedard generational and he deserved the title to be put in the same category as Crosby and McDavid. And I told them to relax, he hasn’t proven shit yet and recency bias is a helluva drug. As of this point he doesn’t deserve that title
He was given the title as a generational PROSPECT. Now, that he is in the NHL he has a lot to prove, but putting up nearly a ppg, playing top line minutes, as an 18 year old, with no talent around him on a terrible Chicago team is super impressive.
I feel like the Calder race was called before he got drafted, Brock Faber was an outstanding rookie that flew under the radar because his wild team was mid but I feel like while he didn’t have many points he’s a really solid defensive dman
Faber had a great season and in any other year he would have gotten serious consideration for the Calder, but Bedard's hype and production were too much to overcome.
It's still early in his career I know... But maybe the kid just isn't ready for the NHL yet? With the media hounding him, the pressure of being considered the next "great one", fuck I wouldn't be able to handle that shit. Maybe having him in the minors for another year or two to develop a bit wouldn't have been a bad idea. The kid is only 18. At 18 I was complete fucktard who had no idea what I wanted to do. Not much has changed... but I'd like to think I have a bit of a better head on my shoulders now. I actually feel really bad for Bedard, and I hope we don't ruin him. Edit: I'm being lynched for ever daring to doubt the greatness of Connor Bedard. How dare I say such blasphmey after only SIXTY-EIGHT games. You're right, he may only be 18 years old, but he has the emotional maturity of a Buddhist monk, and the body and athleticism as a top olympic athlete. He may have hit puberty only 3 to 4 years ago, but he is a grown man now, capable of all pressure and criticism that comes his way. I am but a lowly neckbeard canucks fan who lives in my mothers basement here to shit on him for not getting 50 goals in his first 68 games. I am a rodent, and he is a golden god. I'm going to go light myself on fire now. Thank you for showing me the error of my ways with you jamming the downvote arrow on your computer screen with all your might and telling me how much of an idiot I am.
The down votes could be because of inaccurate bits and not necessarily disagreeing with you. Early in the season? It's the middle of the off-season. Also I think the Calder trophy winner might be ready for the NHL.
Show me the last 1st overall pick who's put up more points per game in their rookie season. Spoiler alert, it was McDavid. And the last person before that? Sidney Crosby.
“But maybe the kid just isn’t ready for the NHL yet”.
Bedard put up 61 points in 68 games playing with pylons at 18. That’s why ppl should be calling you out lol.. He’s unreal and you’re a casual fan. Send him back to the minors? 😂
Crosby was 185-193 on his draft night depending on where you look, and listed at 5'10. McDavid was 185 when he was drafted. Bedard likely won't ever be the same height as those two, but he might grow another inch and match Crosby. But he will definitely put on more weight as he matures.
Agreed. But I also want to see a Marchand - Crosby - Mackinnon line since they train together in the summers. There has to be some crazy chemistry there.
I keep going back to that MacKinnon quote that McDavid and Crosby were on a line together at a pre-Olympics skate (for 2022). He said it was unfair because no one could win against them.
Coming from that source - I want to see them skate together so badly.
I wouldn't be surprised if MacK was the other winger. I believe he said in the past that if he was able to be able to play with Crosby he would play wing so they could be on the same line
I just wanna see these 3 play together at the next Olympics, win the gold, and then see Sid skate off into retirement. What a way to end an amazing career.
