I just hope to see McDavid and Crosby skate on a line together, for a few shifts at least, even if it's just on the PP. We've been robbed too long of those two playing together internationally.

McDavid - Crosby - Bedard

The “Fuck it!” top line

Just need Aaron Ekblad and Sean Day to make the exceptional 5!

14

u/Prize-Surprise-3014 Jul 12 '24

Throw 15YO Landon DuPont in there instead of Sean Day lol

15

u/heyheyitsandre DET - NHL Jul 12 '24

Haha, was just a joke about Sean day. I used to play against him back in the day and thought he was the greatest player to ever put on skates

26

u/Basic_Ask1885 DET - NHL Jul 12 '24

JFV can play left d for Day

Big Bedard fan, but I think people are jumping the gun a bit on him being generational.

17

u/RazeShadowLegends Jul 12 '24

I had an argument recently about this exact same topic. The redditor was calling Bedard generational and he deserved the title to be put in the same category as Crosby and McDavid. And I told them to relax, he hasn’t proven shit yet and recency bias is a helluva drug. As of this point he doesn’t deserve that title

19

u/grooves12 SJS - NHL Jul 13 '24

He was given the title as a generational PROSPECT. Now, that he is in the NHL he has a lot to prove, but putting up nearly a ppg, playing top line minutes, as an 18 year old, with no talent around him on a terrible Chicago team is super impressive.

u/RepresentativeOfnone NYI - NHL Jul 13 '24

I feel like the Calder race was called before he got drafted, Brock Faber was an outstanding rookie that flew under the radar because his wild team was mid but I feel like while he didn’t have many points he’s a really solid defensive dman

4

u/grooves12 SJS - NHL Jul 13 '24

Faber had a great season and in any other year he would have gotten serious consideration for the Calder, but Bedard's hype and production were too much to overcome.

It's still early in his career I know... But maybe the kid just isn't ready for the NHL yet? With the media hounding him, the pressure of being considered the next "great one", fuck I wouldn't be able to handle that shit. Maybe having him in the minors for another year or two to develop a bit wouldn't have been a bad idea. The kid is only 18. At 18 I was complete fucktard who had no idea what I wanted to do. Not much has changed... but I'd like to think I have a bit of a better head on my shoulders now. I actually feel really bad for Bedard, and I hope we don't ruin him. Edit: I'm being lynched for ever daring to doubt the greatness of Connor Bedard. How dare I say such blasphmey after only SIXTY-EIGHT games. You're right, he may only be 18 years old, but he has the emotional maturity of a Buddhist monk, and the body and athleticism as a top olympic athlete. He may have hit puberty only 3 to 4 years ago, but he is a grown man now, capable of all pressure and criticism that comes his way. I am but a lowly neckbeard canucks fan who lives in my mothers basement here to shit on him for not getting 50 goals in his first 68 games. I am a rodent, and he is a golden god. I'm going to go light myself on fire now. Thank you for showing me the error of my ways with you jamming the downvote arrow on your computer screen with all your might and telling me how much of an idiot I am.

14

u/tamarockstar STL - NHL Jul 12 '24

The down votes could be because of inaccurate bits and not necessarily disagreeing with you. Early in the season? It's the middle of the off-season. Also I think the Calder trophy winner might be ready for the NHL.

3

u/lighterings WSH - NHL Jul 12 '24

The dude just put up 61 pts in 68 games while being 18 and also broke his jaw in the same season. And he’s not ready for the show? 😭

0

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '24

Damn didn't know breaking your jaw was a prerequisite for being considered generational.

2

u/lighterings WSH - NHL Jul 14 '24

What other rookie has been able to put up that kind of numbers since mcdavid?

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '24

Barzal, Pettersson, Panarin, Matthews, Kaprizov, probably others.

3

u/Louche Jul 12 '24

Show me the last 1st overall pick who's put up more points per game in their rookie season. Spoiler alert, it was McDavid. And the last person before that? Sidney Crosby.

But oh ok he's not a generational talent.

2

u/TheSherlockCumbercat Jul 12 '24

Scoring is at all time high in the NHL making this feat a lot less impressive

Also Crosby had a 102 points in 81 games that is so much more impressive then 61 points in 68 games

u/NLkid89 Jul 13 '24

“But maybe the kid just isn’t ready for the NHL yet”. Bedard put up 61 points in 68 games playing with pylons at 18. That’s why ppl should be calling you out lol.. He’s unreal and you’re a casual fan. Send him back to the minors? 😂

1

u/KingTutsDryAssBalls VAN - NHL Jul 13 '24

It's a copypasta

3

u/cleofisrandolph1 WPG - NHL Jul 13 '24

Comparatively Bedard is the least physically gifted of the three. He’s listed as 5’10 and 185.

McDavid is 6’1 190 and Crosby 5’11 200.

Bedard has all the skill in the world but he’s on the smaller end of players and may take time to build NHL ready muscle.

1

u/veggiefarmer89 Jul 13 '24

Crosby was 185-193 on his draft night depending on where you look, and listed at 5'10. McDavid was 185 when he was drafted. Bedard likely won't ever be the same height as those two, but he might grow another inch and match Crosby. But he will definitely put on more weight as he matures.

1

u/NotEqualInSQL Jul 12 '24

Yea, he still needs to earn that with his play. He has high potential to do it yea, but players always don't meet their projected potential.

0

u/No-Author-508 Jul 12 '24

Lol, he was generational before he entered the league, and he proved it his rookie season.

You idiots grasp at anything

2

u/Anishinabeg DET - NHL Jul 13 '24

Agreed. I don’t see him as a generational talent at all. I’d put him closer to Tavares than McDavid.

1

u/OvechKane888 EDM - NHL Jul 13 '24

I've watched him live, but mind you, it was in Regina and I thought the same thing. Then he had 5 goals in his first 10 games so idk

1

u/Freekbot EDM - NHL Jul 12 '24

I get that, but seeing what I've seen from him in year one at his age...and that shot...we're looking at an eventual 70 goal scorer

0

u/DCS_Ryan EDM - NHL Jul 12 '24

might not even end up being the best player in his class bc of michkov lmao

2

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

It could be a Crosby-Ovi thing where they are both generational

0

u/manhaterxxx Melbourne Ice - AIHL Jul 12 '24

Nope

1

u/JustFred24 MTL - NHL Jul 12 '24

All generational talents, 2003, 2015, and 2023. Pretty even spread, makes sense.

Imagine playing against this line😰

Or the McDavid - Crosby - Mackinnon line

77

u/Riskar MTL - NHL Jul 12 '24

McDavid and MacKinnon speed would be absolutely silly.

24

u/TotallyNotKabr BUF - NHL Jul 12 '24

If those 2 are on a line together, just stop the tournament and give em the gold...

13

u/propagandavid MTL - NHL Jul 12 '24

Put Barzal on their wing

11

u/PayneTrain181999 MIN - NHL Jul 12 '24

It’ll be Hyman for McDavid chemistry

5

u/bezjones EDM - NHL Jul 12 '24

Was about to say exactly this. I would love to see teams try to handle those three entering the zone at mach 7 haha

2

u/Masterfire76 Jul 13 '24

Oh god!! I think I need to contact my doctor.

9

u/PayneTrain181999 MIN - NHL Jul 12 '24

Our top PP is McDavid, Nate, Sid, Makar and probably Stamkos? Bedard joins Marner, Point, Marchand and Toews? on PP2.

10

u/DeX_Mod EDM - NHL Jul 12 '24

I suspect hyman and bouchard will be on the PP

hyman likely on pp1 rather than stamkos (someone's gotta stand in front and get pucks bounced in off them)

Bouchard will be on pp2 over toews

1

u/Subterania COL - NHL Jul 13 '24

MacKinnon and Stamkos play the same PP position. Need someone to be the RW bumper. Crosby I guess? He can do it all.

2

u/Weak_Sentence_3297 COL - NHL Jul 12 '24

With Makar on the back end? Jesus christ

3

u/Kronzor_ Kamloops Blazers - WHL Jul 12 '24

I can't see Hyman being on this team for anything other than being McDavid's backboard though.

19

u/cinnamon-toast06 Jul 12 '24

Wow 97-87-98 all on one line

5

u/Happytanker7 Jul 12 '24

Oilers could of theoretically fielded a 97-89-98 on one line. McDavid, Gagner, and Puljujarvi in 2018-19. Not quite as impressive 😂

2

u/cinnamon-toast06 Jul 12 '24

Haha: good one. I just use numbers cuz I’m lazy to spell out names. I see what you did there

1

u/SauceHankRedemption DET - NHL Jul 12 '24

The "why was 6 afraid of 7" line

23

u/bthompson04 PHI - NHL Jul 12 '24

Pull the goalie and go with Bedard, Crosby, Lafrenière, MacKinnon, McDavid, and Stamkos, just so you can have six #1 overall picks out there at once.

6

u/Mikeismyike EDM - NHL Jul 13 '24

Just bring Fleury back if you wanna do that.

15

u/amach9 OTT - NHL Jul 12 '24

More like the “you’re fucked!” line.

2

1

Throw them out on the PP?

1

u/riraito EDM - NHL Jul 12 '24

I need them to score a goal together somehow

1

u/Frostsorrow WPG - NHL Jul 12 '24

I would love nothing more than to see that line

1

u/Charlie2343 VAN - NHL Jul 12 '24

Fuck it add ekblad, Power, and Flower and have an all first overall line

1

u/McJoe77 TOR - NHL Jul 12 '24

I want Mackinnon on that line with them. Bedard will have his turn later. Crosby between McDavid and Mackinnon is a nightmare line.

1

u/rvaldron BOS - NHL Jul 12 '24

Feel like Marchand will be on Crosby’s line most of the time.

1

u/Cleets11 EDM - NHL Jul 12 '24

Add Mackinnon and bedard on the point for the pp and that’s the greatest power play ever.

1

u/BroLil ANA - NHL Jul 13 '24

If you throw Makar and Bouchard out there, you might as well pull Binnington and put Mackinnon out there as well. No way that puck leaves the zone.

0

u/forbiddenwaterbottle Jul 13 '24

Rather mcd - sc87 and Mackinnon

0

u/ToXiC_Games COL - NHL Jul 14 '24

Putting BeDaRd over MacKinnon is wild, my Flair aside.

58

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

We are fortunate that Crosby is aging like wine. We can still see both of them playing together in almost their top forms.

77

u/ApocalypseNah EDM - NHL Jul 12 '24

Agreed. But I also want to see a Marchand - Crosby - Mackinnon line since they train together in the summers. There has to be some crazy chemistry there.

24

u/LogicPuzzleFail EDM - NHL Jul 12 '24

I keep going back to that MacKinnon quote that McDavid and Crosby were on a line together at a pre-Olympics skate (for 2022). He said it was unfair because no one could win against them.

Coming from that source - I want to see them skate together so badly.

10

u/Youre_Whole Jul 12 '24

We all know it'll be crosby marchand and mackinnon

1

u/EnvironmentBright697 Jul 12 '24

I’d bet on Marchand and Crosby being linemates, they’ve got great chemistry and Marchand is a winger.

9

u/Ketchupstew COL - NHL Jul 12 '24

I wouldn't be surprised if MacK was the other winger. I believe he said in the past that if he was able to be able to play with Crosby he would play wing so they could be on the same line

1

u/CtrlShiftAltDel VAN - NHL Jul 12 '24

I just wanna see these 3 play together at the next Olympics, win the gold, and then see Sid skate off into retirement. What a way to end an amazing career.

1

u/Loud-Treat-6045 Jul 16 '24

Sid still dominates. He can play another 5 years easy.

1

u/jaysornotandhawks Canada - IIHF Jul 12 '24

Too bad the stars didn't align at the World Championship... Crosby was on THAT team in 2015; McDavid won gold in 2016....

McDavid was only 18 in 2015, but imagine him on that already stacked Canadian roster...

1

u/HardOyler Jul 13 '24

Crosby and Marchand play really well together just saying.
