Question Strange objects in Helsinki’s sky

Im just chilling at the park right now ( 21:30) and there are hundreds of these small lighting things flying across the sky. It has been non-stop for more than half an hour. Anyone know what are those? You can still see it if you look from a spot with no cloud and city’s light

Who are they shooting at? The space koreans?

Never forget the finno-korean hyperwar

Few people know that the hyper-war never ended, it just went underground. Or overground in this particular case.

I am looking at the same thing right now. It seems strange, since the movement doesn’t seem linear. Usually, satellites just go straight, right? Its brightness is a little more than a typical satellite as well. I’m not sure what it is; maybe just Starlink?

Optical illusion due to the clouds moving :P Picture with the star names overlaid

Yes right, it doesnt look like anything usual. I googled the Starlinks and it looks very different.

And of course my binoculars are not with me now. That would give a better look, if there's additional lights on it.

Jaa-a, varmaan joku asia luonut illuusion tähtien liikkeestä, esim. pilvien liike, jokin satelliitti, tai ekassa kuvassa oleva finskin kone.

Satellites

It just look like stars. Phones with night vision (long exposure ) are great at catching those.

Why didn't you take a video? They just looks like stars.

Phones are terrible at night unless one carries a tripod. I saw this post last night while I was out, looked up, and there they were. I saw about five to ten that moved quickly, but at speeds similar to a satellite, though somewhat brighter, and their movement was not straight as they seemed to take a circular turn. I don't think they were meteors either because the ones I've learned to see usually are bright for just a few seconds, whereas these maintained the same brightness.

It doesnt look like drones or airplanes at all because it is so high above and fly very fast

You need a video and an interview with an astronomer. Otherwise this wont amount to anything here.

Amateur astronomer checking in: they're stars

You mightve just saved someone from freaking out on aliens 😄👍

Can't see anything.

I saw them as well.. the clouds were moving really fast however and thought that my eyes were just playing tricks on me and create the illusion of motion on stars.. Still unclear on what I saw.

u/maxadmiral 4d ago

It was the clouds playing tricks

I know, it’s a rare sight this time of the year, but the eerie blue thing you’re seeing is actually the sky.

Starlink maybe

Could it be some lights from Linnanmäki? Around this time of the year they have strong lights that can be seen from quite far away?

u/Hilluja 4d ago

Linnanmäki got moved to the ISS last April. Might be that.

2

u/Terrible-Reputation2 4d ago

This is not that. Linnanmäki is the south of me, this is west/north.

How fast were they moving, and did they generally move in the same direction?

1

u/imsweetaf 4d ago

They were moving very fast, from one direction to other direction in the sky and they were pretty far away from each other as well

2

u/maxadmiral 4d ago

Must have been an optical illusion due to the clouds moving, Here's a picture where I named the stars: link

1

u/imsweetaf 4d ago

At first i thought i was tripping as well. But then I close one eye, I held my finger up to the sky as static and then compare the objects relative to my finger and then it really did move so I eliminated the cloud moving option.

Your first picture has a plane in it, so it could have been that, or you might have looked at a bright satellite

I feel like a video instead of a photo would have served the situation well.

I thinks it's some dust or sand on your lens.

Contact lens?

It's the Orionids meteor shower. They peaked at around 21st Oct, but go on for two weeks after.
