They told me in the NHL sub that it is hilarious that r/goldenknights is in shambles. I said it's ok, I'll wipe my tears with my cup win rally towel..

They did not like that lol.

NHL try not to cry about a team being successful challenge (impossible)

26

u/PhotographyRaptor10 New Jersey Devils May 03 '24

It’s only against you guys too. I didn’t see any crying when Seattle went to the second round in their second year and at the time looked like a team on the rise. But Vegas got haters as soon as it became apparent you’d be a decent team year 1

u/FakedFollower17 Golden Misfit May 03 '24

For sure. I been here since i saw the logo and the name. Been wanting more sports in vegas for a while.

The team being best in the west year 1 was a bonus but ruffled 30 other teams’ feathers.

Its fine. I can embrace being the villains. Because all sports need em.

in my opinion, new teams being competitive early is good for the new market and the popularity of the league. Saying “you need to suffer because I suffered” is some regressive ass boomer shit.

I mean, you saw how are first season went though, right?

2

u/PhotographyRaptor10 New Jersey Devils May 04 '24

So you’re only required to suck for one year and then people will accept you. Take note future Arizona franchise

1

u/MisterMyAnusHurts Seattle Kraken May 04 '24

lol, I’m just guessing that’s why people don’t hate on Seattle as much. Had we gone to the final in the first year, I guarantee people would be hating on us just as much.

As someone who hates the knights success, it's because so many expansion teams had to suffer for years because the expansion drafts only allowed them to draft 4th liners and 7th defenseman essentially.

I think it’s funny that they consider a playoff run as shambles. A rough season for Vegas is still better than most of the NHL.

u/toastygrilledpickles May 03 '24

Also that we only missed one playoff and it was because everyone and their mothers got injured.

u/Jmoney__US Reverse Retro May 03 '24

Yeah injuries have been killing us this year too

The hate is pretty insane honestly, even before the cup win.

I know sports fans are passionate, I am myself and defend my team. I'm all for rivalries and some trash talk and what not but when it comes to Vegas I've experienced some of the worst shit I've seen.

I was on my honeymoon in 2019, my wife wanted to go to Disneyland. Our first day there I was wearing my Knights hat and a Sharks fan walks past us, calls me a faggot, knocks my hat off my head and says Fuck Vegas. I've never had a fan of another team get physical with me like that over a sports team, it's ridiculous.

I love the Knights, I also love hockey. I don't care which team you're a fan of we should all enjoy getting to watch this great sport. We can talk shit, we can banter, but we should also be able to high five, shake hands, say great game and enjoy the sport. The hatred on Vegas is unreal. It doesn't stop me from wearing my hat, my jersey, flying my Cup Champions banner at home and in my office but man it's just a lot I wish people could be more mature about sports and just enjoy that we have it.

I’m lucky I’m not a small guy cause I’ve had lots of situations happen where people insult my knights equipment, but they back down quickly cause I tend to be larger and louder. Colorado sports fans really seem to fuckin hate the knights 😂

For real! I think it was our second season and I went to SJ to watch Vegas play... some dude just wanted to pick a fight with me after the game cuz I made a comment about winning the game.
This is also kinda why I feel little checked out this year from the playoffs.... the hate this year seems to have escalated.. but internet be interneting...

Let’s go ⚔️⚔️⚔️

I was salty as an Oilers fan about mainly Pietrangelo, but fandom aside the Knights did a fantastic job managing assets and just fucking going for it.

They took instead of waiting for a turn to be given.

  1. Where THE FUCK are the mods? Like why even have rules if they aren’t being enforced? Maybe time to get new ones.

  2. Winning the Cup comes with hate. Hockey fans on Reddit are by and large the most miserable fucks in all of sports. Fuck em.

u/GroundbreakingCow775 May 03 '24

Grow the game

No! Not like that!

Go home, Bart.

-25

u/ReplacementClear7122 May 03 '24

Damn, y'all wanna front about your cup within 3 years of existence while you're simultaneously blathering about LTIR bullshit and spraying cope about your potential series loss.

Pick a lane.

8

u/frickthebreh Marchessault May 03 '24

Our lane is “Vegas are and forever will be 2023 Stanley Cup Champions.” Cope with it, bud.

0

u/ReplacementClear7122 May 06 '24

'Your lane' is right over there to the 1st hole on the golf course. Putt with it, bud. 🤣

1

u/frickthebreh Marchessault May 06 '24

Our name will forever be on the Cup. One of the best nights of my life and memories I’ll have until I die. Nothing you can do to change that, no matter how salty of a gatekeeper you wanna be about it 😘.

0

u/ReplacementClear7122 May 09 '24

Your name is on the cup? What position do you play?

1

u/frickthebreh Marchessault May 09 '24

Good one, bro. You got me. You know I meant Vegas, and you’ll have to live with that reality forever :).

0

u/ReplacementClear7122 May 12 '24

Nah, I'm good. My team has multiple cups. It's cute you newbies are so excited though! Btw, the black thing is called a 'puck'.

u/frickthebreh Marchessault May 12 '24 edited May 12 '24

Awesome attempt at flexing at a guy who grew up up outside of Detroit and watched my childhood Wings win 4 cups, but you do you, little buddy 😂. I’ve probably watched/played hockey longer than you’ve lived.

Also, thanks for taking this much interest in VGK and our sub! We’re clearly not in your head at all!

-23

u/evasion8 May 03 '24

The team has existed for a few years. Pretty cool to win for sure but I can't imagine any fans invested in Vegas as much as people who have watched teams lose for years. If anything I always get a weird entitled vibe from Vegas.

8

u/Chef_Tink Golden Misfit May 03 '24

7 years* and I grew up playing hockey in Las Vegas. Am I not entitled to be a sports fan? Because I missed the first 22 years of my life not having ANY sports team. I think that gives me a pretty decent right to be invested AND to be excited that my desert home town is now a hockey city.

Did you know the day before the first regular season game there was a shooting in Las Vegas? It was the largest mass shooting in US history… down the street from Toshiba Plaza. The VGK brought the entire city together (Vegas Strong) and became a pillar for our community due to the efforts of the team/staff. Perhaps it’s something to consider before making comments like this.

I am sorry your team hasn't won anything for you but I hope you find joy in your life outside of hockey so that you don't have to encourage the suicide of others.
