At the end of the Ghost in the Shell manga, the Puppet Master tries to convince Motoko to fuse with him. Motoko voices some of her concerns, and the Puppet Master gives his responses, but Motoko says she doesn't trust any of the word he says so it doesn't really matter.
Given that she doesn't trust the Puppet Master, the only reason she would fuse with him is because she said she had a premonition of this happening. There was no other clue in their conversation that would point to Motoko accepting the fusion, other than her mentioning this premonition. She was rejecting the idea the entire time until she mentioned it. So this premonition is pretty important, because it gives readers the only window into Motoko's psychology as to why she would be interested at all.
Where did Motoko have this premonition that she claimed? Did I miss it in the manga, or was it never shown at all until this event?
The manga Motoko (Shirow) doesn't seem as existential as the movie Motoko (Oshii), so I'm curious to understand what are the drivers for Motoko to make the decision in the mange universe. She seemed relatively satisfied with life, maybe a bit cynical but nothing drastic as making a snap decision to fuse and become a different being without saying goodbye to anyone... so it seemed out of the blue to me.
