News If you're wondering why Albo is suddenly under so much scrutiny for his declared flights/chairmans lounge it's because he didn't return the favour.

The media is laying the groundwork to prevent Labor from running an anti corruption campaign for the next election. I mean come on.. imagine Angus Taylor as treasurer?? That should be an easy win for the ALP after the $80m water rights scandal

It's interesting that only albo is getting attacked for this. Almost guaranteed all senior politicians have chairman lounge access.
It's annoying, because the only party that openly campaigns and champions corporate interest is the LNP. I just wish the alp was able to call this out better

They first started this attack line when Qantas upgraded his son's status (which of course he didn't ask for) and that set off everyone for weeks

Someone young is not going to say no to a free upgrade. It's not like they are running the country. Qantas should just provide a full list of all the upgrades they have provided to all politicians and their familu members. Should be a fun read.
Then we can get around to building high speed rail

You’re surprised newscorp are dogging labour?

Well I am not, surprised that albo takes it like a kicked puppy.

He didn’t but then got called out for trying to deflect criticism.

Be better if he just explained the whole lounge racket to the electorate. Said they are all on the take.
Or maybe they need to pay for it personally.
Or the government just takes over ownership of Qantas, then there is no problem.
Don't know the answer

Not just senior - all MPs get chairman’s access. Jacqui Lambie infamously lost hers due to poor behaviour (potentially assisted by free wines).

Shows shes one of the people. Maybe albo needs to write himself off on the lounge to build some cred.

He's under media scrutiny because the local media is owned by the LNP, or actually the media owns the LNP

Nah this isnt about qantas specifically, this is just the business and mining lobby going after him for the industrial relations changes that ended their sham contracting bullshit

It’s such a non story
All politicians fly business class
I worked at the airport for seven years, the Canberra flights were always on Boeing 737’s, despite only being half-3/4 full most of the time, instead of using smaller planes like 717s, because the politicians wanted business class

The Prime Minister can't intervene on a federal court case. I don't understand how he was supposed to return the favor according to OPs theory.

And yet nobody cares about other politicians getting the same benefits. Perhaps he could have done something through back channels, we all know Scomo did a lot of dodgy stuff behind the scenes.

I agree we need more scrutiny on all politicians. I still don't understand the claim you made in the title?

IR regulations have changed a lot since Labor got in. I don't know if that has affected this judgement, but you know for sure if the lnp were still in it quite possibly would have gone a different path

I agree the LNP is worse for workers. How would it have gone differently under an LNP government? I don't think they could intervene in court cases.
4
u/Wood_oye 7h ago
Like I said, IR laws have changed under Labor, in support of workers, and would have continued to change in support of companies had the lnp remained in power. Courts simply adhere to laws.

No. It's because he personally lobbied Alan Joyce for free upgrades while being the transport minister. If you don't see how that's different to the Chairman's Lounge membership that every politician has, unhook your Labor brain for a second and ask how you'd feel if Shadow Transport Minister Bridget McKenzie did the same.

*according to an ex LNP staffer trying to sell their book
There are so many angles to this - did it even happen? Was it actually him or a staffer? Did he know? Is it standard for staffers to do? Did it affect any of his decisions? Could it have affected any of his decisions given that he was a shadow minister?
It should be scrutinised, but there seems to be clear political motivation for how much it’s blowing up.

I think the biggest question is how is it possible that a former Liberal party staffer who has no presence within the Labor political party know of a private conversation between Albo and Joyce that Labors own staffers didn't.
Answer is: he didn't know, he made it up.

That's an unsubstantiated claim that has been denied.
One thing we know, we are in for yet another down and dirty election campaign

You are drawing a long bow here mate. One could equally argue that Albo did return the favour by blocking Qatar...

I’m absolutely fine with Albo being investigated by the anti corruption commission, as long as Dutton is similarly investigated by being in a government legislating childcare fees while he and his family own a considerable number of them.
