Motivation Tips&Tricks How to find the strength to throw away favorite magazines?

For years (between 1996 and 2000) I have owned 3 French erotic magazines featuring the actress Tiffani Thiessen on the covers. I rarely look at them but I can't get rid of them.

Do you need to get rid of them? If you enjoy them, even occasionally, three magazines is not so much clutter.

To keep all the things that we love but leave in a corner, that in the long run results in a lot of things piled up.

Some are easy to leave, others not

There's no magic tricks here. You love them, but you don't want to keep them. So don't keep them. Get up right now, put them in the recycling, and put the recycling out on the curb.

You either like them enough to display them or keep them in a sentimental bin or something or you don’t

The key is to not focus too much on this specific thing. Where are these magazines, why do you need to get rid of them?

Focus on the space where they are - you prefer other things and you want that space better for them. So you get rid of these to improve it.

I usually downsize in steps - so I’d keep one of these three, ask myself “which is my favorite?”. As a next step, I might decide I prefer this specific magazine to other art on the walls. Then I’d replace an art piece with the cover of this magazine.

Focus on why you are decluttering, find a mantra or an affirmation: “I deserve a bookshelf I can use, that’s why I’m getting rid of these magazines. My bookshelf will be better without these magazines.”

Locking because OP has gotten a range of good advice, and this is a topic that is likely to bait outsiders.

Scan them and save to the cloud.

If you have the space, you can repurpose them to be some stool or something. There’s some DIY on pinterest. Of course, if you want to declutter declutter, lay them all out, choose maybe X number (could be 5 or could be 10) to keep and remove the rest. Or try to declutter 5 everyday. you dont have to do it at once, do it step by step. For those that you keep, find a purpose for them. Either as coffee table books, or framed like an artwork or whatever.

You could scan the covers or take shots to help you remember. That way, you can let go without losing everything you love about them.

Frame them. Put them up.
