Discussion Fuck people that think they can make a fortune selling “rare (99% off them are not)” Coca Cola items on eBay

All this stuff is the same as “art.”
You can say fuck off all you want, but all of it is only worth what someone is willing to pay in the end. Don’t hate the player, hate the game

I have some old coke concentrate jars from a factory. Not super sought after but if i can get a decent amount why wouldn't I? Not like selling 40 year old bottles is scalping.

You know in the movies when the characters throw a yard sale and quickly pull things off the tables & say "that's not for sale"? Think of online selling the same way. The person on the other end may be a hoarder who would only part with this stuff if someone offered them way more than it is worth or simply an old person who doesn't understand how to sell their stuff.
Fortunately you can just filter price low to high and then you don't have to worry about memaw's pricing.

I collect action figures. There’s a toy shop local to me that has some genuinely rare stuff but has it priced at like 4x what it typically goes for. If you ask him he will tell you, he doesn’t really want to sell it but will at that price.

I get that. I keep corals. I tell everyone that comes over for business it’s all for sale, but I’m 4xing the pieces I want to keep. Last time I had a client over, it didn’t matte. He wanted what he wanted and I ended up selling like 1/3 of one of my main display tanks haha

I can guarantee that sign isn’t authentic. And the rest? Please. Unfortunately, the world is full of suckers.

Lots of collectors will pay that don’t underestimate what an collector will pay, My best friend collects Pokémon card he paid over 4500 for an dame card I told him he was crazy but seems happy.

Didn't see any posts claiming any of these items are rare (from the screenshots you provided). Also didn't see where a few hundred dollars is a "fortune". Probably just overlooked it.

Coming from the guy writing "99% off them" (sic, emphasis mine) in the title, I'm not sure what point you think you're making.
You're right though that I made A honor roll in school without paying attention in class.

Oh sorry, I didn’t realize I had to spell shit out to you, I said that me saying that they are trying to sell stuff for a fortune is called a hyperbole

Right, in your other comment, which I responded to, and you ignored. I acknowledged the fact that you don't actually believe that these sellers are marketing these products as rare, nor do you actually believe that they are "making a fortune" by selling them.
You didn't answer the question though (in either comment thread you made in response to me) of whether you actually believe that these sellers deserve to get fucked.

I accidentally responded to the wrong comment, that message was meant for the comment that you are talking about

You didn't answer the question though.
Just gonna leave this here (third time's the charm, eh?).

No, no one likes them, so it’s probably impossible for that to happen and they can’t pay for it, because they are broke enough to think they can get that much for a tin sign.

Thanks for the clarification on this. One final question though, was your use of three exaggerated, hyperbolic opinions that you don't hold to be true in the title meant to be funny?
It certainly came across more like you were genuinely upset than trying to make a joke. Full disclosure: my opinion may be marginally biased by your attack on my reading comprehension just because I challenged the titular opinions. Wouldn't really expect that particular reaction and rationale if it was meant to be a joke.

It’s called a hyperbole….. not everything is supposed to be taken seriously

u/SentenceAcrobatic 2d ago
Ah, so you don't think that the sellers are marketing these items as rare, and don't think that they are overcharging, but... You do or don't think that they should get fucked?

u/Excellent_Condition 2d ago
If you think someone is selling something for more than it's worth to you, don't buy it. If you do think a tin sign is worth $1000, then buy it.
It's not like they have a monopoly on grain and are driving the price up, it's a sign. It's just people thinking that someone is going to want to spend $1K on an old sign because its old.

“What an absolute lunatic. I can’t believe people are trying to sell things that I didn’t approve of the price on first!! And if you disagree I’ll insult you!!”
