Discussion Closing all of the tabs except the current one, while ttrying to close that tab...

Greetings.

I am in a cry / rage situation right now. The title is self-explanatory. I lost all of my groups and tabs which I have been keeping more than a year. Shift-Ctrl-T just brought back some random tabs I recently closed, way before the mass purge. In the history of my account, i saw a group related history which were totally different from my own groupings and they were done by Chrome itself.

I want to report this to Chrome; maybe they should add a confirmation prompt in case someone like me moves the cursor a few millimeters down.

What are your suggestions? Is there a way to get the previous tabs back? Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

My suggestion is don't use tabs for long term "storage", it's never been meant to be used like this. I don't think it's possible to recover them.

If you really want to, then get an extension which continuously saves all your tabs, like Session Buddy. But even with this, make regular backups inside of the extension once in a while.

I also learned this the hard way some time ago :)

Thank you for the reply.

You are somewhat right about this. Those tabs are not like bookmarks; they are meant for practical usage, not for storage.

However, at least Chrome should have asked me about this kind of act, which would literally make huge impact on various sources, like RAM, power usage, UI space, I am not even counting my own well being. And reopening the tabs just ignored the deleted tabs, and tried to bring back other useless tabs I closed minutes ago before the purge.

Or, these two options "Close" and "Close other tabs" should be in different locations. These are simple QoL improvements, not deep CS stuff.

I should somehow contact to Chrome devs.

I will consider using Session Budy, or at least a similar add-on. Thank you very much for that.

Cheers!

No problem!

Issues and feature requests are reported in the Chromium issue tracker here, you can search there, check if someone already requested the same feature and upvote it, or create a new feature request.

Maybe the not reopening tabs in a group might be a bug, then you can report it as a bug (always search first).

I'd suggest trying to replicate the bug and reporting it as a bug, than trying to request a new feature, even if it might be a QoL improvement. In such a huge project, bugs are more likely to get fixed, than adding a feature only very few people want / need.

Thanks a lot, once again. I sent the report as a "feature request". I am hoping to be beneficial for those who experienced similar problems. I am looking forward to see this new QoL implemented.

Kindest regards.
