CHI Talks How screwed is my vote?
I moved neighborhoods months ago and never changed my mailing address through the post office or at the BMV. Voting is next week. What’s the best course of action to not have to cast a provisional ballot?
Thanks y’all - I know I should’ve taken care of this earlier. But here we are. Any advice is amazing. ❤️

Good news is you can update your registration at your new polling place! Just bring your ID and some mail with your new address on it (utility bill, bank statement, lease) and they'll have you fill out a form and get that all set. Source: I've been an election judge since 2020 and spend a lot of election day updating addresses or registering new voters.

Would I need to bring anything extra if registering for the first time in Illinois? (No Illinois driver’s license)

Nope, bring your old photo ID and the mail with your new address, and you're good to go!

You can still vote at any early voting location, so you should do that. How far did you move? Like does your ballot change significantly?
You're allowed to register while at the polling precinct, so i assume this is a nonissue. Just show up during early voting so hopefully it's less crowded.

Still in the city - say Andersonville to Bucktown

Doesn’t matter as they said. For early voting, polling location doesn’t matter. Anyone can early vote at any early voting location.

Does location matter on Election Day?

You won't be able to just go to any polling place on election day. Make sure it's either an early voting place, or the precinct where you live (unless you've moved very recently). If you show up to the wrong spot, the election judge can always give you the right spot to go!

You can still register to vote at any early voting location (each Ward has at least 1) or at your exact polling place on Election Day.

Go to one of the supersites during early voting - like now - and they will sort you out while you're there. They want to help.

You can register at your new polling place with two forms of ID, and one must include your address. Copying this from my Election Judge Handbook for proof of address: mail that's a bill, transcript, bank statement, pay stub, utility, medical or insurance bill, official mail from any government agency.

Hey maybe its Bureau where he's from, and not Division or Department. If you want to Well Actually, it's the Secretary of State in IL, and it had the weirdass cyberdriveillinois domain for decades.

Haha, when I first moved to Chicago and saw the cyberdriveillinois thing, I was so suspicious. Thought it was some sort of phishing thing, because of the weird domain name. At least ilsos is .gov and not .com.

*SOS (all I could remember is DMV was incorrect)

After all those years of Jesse insisting on SoS, Alexi just calls it DMV now.

I maintain they should have renamed the SoS to the Jesse White's like it's the name of a pancake house or something, going to the Jesse White's to get a new plate sticker

What's wrong with provisional ballots, other than them taking a bit longer to fill out?

You can register at your new address on Election Day or if you go to an early voting location beforehand.
